Lawsuit against Nascar driver

NASCAR driver, Jeremy Mayfield, still reeling from his recent suspension due to a failed drug test, was hit with a lawsuit from his stepmother. Lisa Mayfield claimed that Mayfield had made slanderous statements and filed her suite in the Iredell County Superior Court on Wednesday.

In her suit Lisa Mayfield claimed that her stepson had made statements to multiple media outlets alleging that she had killed his father and received money from NASCAR for an affidavit about Jeremy Mayfield’s use of methamphetamine.

Jeremy Mayfield still maintains his innocence on the charges of drug use and claims that the NASCAR test is flawed. He has undergone independent testing which has shown no drug use.

Lisa Mayfield’s suite says that she signed an affidavit on July 15th concerning Jeremy Mayfield’s use of meth. The lawsuit also says that on the same day Jeremy told a ESPN reporter “She’s basically a whore. She shot and killed my dad.” Then the suit claims that four day’s later the Jeremy told a WSOC-TV reporter that she either conspired to kill his father or shot him in the heart. It is also claimed that Jeremy Mayfield called his stepmother a golddigger.
Lisa Mayfield claims that these statements tarnished her reputation.

The lawsuit requests that a jury hear the case and is asking for unspecified compensation exceeding $10,000 each.
