Latest Chicago Cubs News

Latest Chicago Cubs NewsIf you are a Chicago Cubs fan, this information is made especially for you. Yahoo Contributor Raymond Bureau recently published an article about his opinion on having Oakland A’s left-hander Gido Gonzalez in the team.

I will give you an overview of what Bureau thinks about Gonzalez, including the latest statistics of his not-so-right (he’s a lefty, remember?) performance.

For over two years, 26-year old Gonzalez played 16 games for a fourth-place team and made the American League All-Star team. He made $420,000 in 2011, which seems like it’s not a big deal for the Chicago Cubs to spend. But it still depends what exactly the Cubs will offer him.

As for other updates, there’s a report in Chicago Tribune written by Paul Sullivan about the six hottest Cubs topics. Refer below:

  1. Woody’s winter: The Kerry Wood signing is considered inevitable, and Epstein said bringing Wood back is a “priority.”
  2. Zambrano’s head: While Carlos Zambrano says he’s training hard in Venezuela to report to camp in top physical condition, it’s his mental condition that most concerns the Cubs.
  3. Coaching conundrum: The Cubs now have two prominent hitting coaches in Rudy Jaramillo and new manager Dale Sveum.
  4. McCubs: The Ricketts family’s $20 million purchase of the McDonald’s and its parking lot across from Wrigley Field makes perfect sense for long-term planning, but goes against the grain a bit for the organization.
  5. Power outage: Aramis Ramirez and Carlos Pena combined for 54 home runs in 2011, 36 percent of the team’s totals. New right-fielder David DeJesus had 10 with the A’s in 2011, while Stewart had none for the Rockies.
  6. Theo compensation: Red Sox general manager Ben Cherington joked to reporters that compensation for Epstein will be decided in “15 to 20 years.”

Latest Chicago Bulls News and Other Rumors

Latest Chicago Bulls News

This just in: the Chicago Bulls will not need Dwight Howard to win the title.

Why?

Pundits say they’re sure of winning without making any major moves. They have been the best defensive team, the first in defensive efficiency and the second best rebounding team.

That only shows that they do not really need Howard, because the team is already operating well with or without him.

Add to that, columnists say that the Chicago Bulls already have some of the NBA’s best players (Noah, Asik, Gibson, Boozer, Deng and Hamilton). Howard’s presence is just a bonus.

Playing “away” always reveals a lot about a team early on in a season. Weaknesses are revealed, and strengths are pinpointed for development. The Chicago Bulls finished their first road trip of the season with a sound 3-1 record. Now it’s full steam ahead for the Bulls, who fly back this weekend & face Memphis on New Year’s Day.

The Bulls players expressed disappointment that they lost to Golden State on their recent road trip. Center Joakim Noah said, “The NBA season is such a roller coaster. One day you feel like you’re on top of the world when you beat the Lakers and then the next night you lose against Golden State. But it’s all about bouncing back and having the mindset of just getting better every day. We know we have a ways to go, but it was definitely a good win for us tonight.”

Bears Look to End the Year on a High Note Against the Vikings

As we all know, the Chicago Bears got off to a great start this season. The team opened up strong against Atlanta with a win on opening weekend, but then faltered in their next two meetings against New Orleans and Green Bay. But then the Bears got on a hot streak during October and November, winning five games in a row and taking the number two seed in their division.

The wheels came off in November, though, when the team dropped five straight, including a tough overtime loss against the Denver Broncos in Week 14. As the end of 2011 approaches, the Bears are hoping to end the year strong with a victory over the Minnesota Vikings.

One thing that works in the Bears’ favor in tomorrow’s game is that the Vikings will be without their star running back Adrian Peterson, who is out for the season with an injured ACL and MCL. This should give the Bears’ rush defense a break, since the team is currently allowing the sixth  most opponent rushing yards in the league. But Chicago also has to work on its passing yardage. Currently, the Bears are 26th overall in passing, with just 192 average passing yards per game. If the Bears can sharpen their passing skills and stop the run against Minnesota, the team stands a good chance of starting off 2012 on a good foot.

Blackhawk Fans Still Buzzing Over Buzzer Beater Goal

The Chicago Blackhawks played the Minnesota Wild on Wednesday night and, what may have seemed like an uninteresting game, turned out to be a thrilling last-minute shootout victory for the Blackhawks. Both teams were tied at three goals apiece going into the overtime period, but were unable to score at all during the additional five minutes.

After the overtime period ended and the shootout began, the Wild attempted to strike first, as Matt Cullen took a shot at the net. Thankfully for Chicago fans, the goal was saved by Ray Emery, who the Blackhawks coach had named the starter just a week before. Emery went on to save a second Minnesota goal, attempted by Dany Heatley during the shootout before Chicago’s Danny Kane started off down the ice for the final shootout possession.

Rather than race down the ice and go for a sudden strike, Kane slowed down to a crawl as he approached the net and waited for the Minnesota goalie to commit to a move. After Niklas Backstrom headed to his left, Kane took the opportunity to move to the right and make a fast shot toward the goal, giving Chicago the lead and the victory. Afterwards, Kane explained his strategy, saying “It’s all about reading the goalie and sometimes when you’re going slow you have more time to read what he’s going to do.”

Next up, Chicago will play the Anaheim Ducks on Friday, December 16.

Blackhawks Get Ready for Next Game Against San Jose

Two months into the 2011 NHL season, the Chicago Blackhawks are having a great run. The team is currently sitting at first place in their division, with a record of 17-8-4. Things really got hot during the second week of November, when the team won four straight games. Coming off an overtime thriller win against the New York Islanders earlier this week, the Blackhawks are gearing up for their next game against the San Jose Sharks.

Interestingly, Chicago’s coach, Joel Quenneville doesn’t use a set roster. He selects his starting lineup based on who’s performing best at the time. After his performance in the last game, Ray Emery has gotten the call to start at goalie for the Blackhawks in the San Jose game. However, if Emery doesn’t come through, Quenneville will go back to Corey Crawford for another try at the job. Based on sources, Quenneville is open to at least two of these changes before settling on a permanent goalie for the season. In the meantime, Crawford has been working on his skill with a goalie coach, just in case he gets the call to come back.

Chicago Fire Look Ahead to 2012 Season

There’s no doubt that the Chicago Fire had a rough 2011 regular MLS season. However, the team seemed to find its stride near the end of the year, even posting a winning record during the final third of the season. Part of Chicago’s growing pains were due to interim coach Frank Klopas, who was finally given the permanent head coaching job earlier this month. The team’s management was greatly impressed with how the team came together as they adjusted to Klopas’ coaching style and cited the late-season turnaround as factor in their decision.

To begin the 2012 season, the Fire have opted to participate in the Carolina Challenge Cup, a preseason competition that includes three other MLS clubs. During last season’s Carolina Challenge Cup, things didn’t go so well for the Fire as they lost two players to ejections during the tournament.

At the end of this month, the Fire were wrapping up their final training session and talking about plans for next year. To keep players’ skills sharp during the offseason, coach Klopas stated that the team is open to allowing players to go overseas to play before the start of the 2012 season. Stressing the sum benefit of such an arrangement, Klopas said, “With some of the players I think it’s important for their growth to be in an environment where they continue to train.”

White Sox Examining Roster Ahead of 2012 Season

As we all know by now, the White Sox didn’t make the playoffs during the 2011 season. To the team’s management, the disappointing season record of 79-83 was especially painful, considering the record $127 million spent on the club’s payroll last year. Of particular note is the $12 million of the payroll that went to Adam Dunn last season alone. Dunn recorded a woefully bad batting average of .159 on the season.

Even without Dunn’s onfield struggles, it’s clear that the White Sox need to make some drastic changes in their roster if they want to make a better showing for the next few years. Club management seems to agree and team chairman Jerry Reinsdorf acknowledged that almost any player is on the table when it comes to making moves.

Speaking to one of ESPN’s radio shows, Reinsdorf said “Before coming to a final decision, we need to have a better idea about our players, and what steps to take next…If we have to take a step back, we will.” While it’s unclear exactly who the Sox are willing to part with, it appears that the team is considering a major shakeup or two ahead of the start of 2012 spring training.

From Chicago Cubs to Chicago Bulls, here is the up-to-the-minute news in the world of basketball. A news outbreak left fans browsing information at Bleacher Report rather than seeing Derrick Rose in action as the NBA season starts. They did not watch Chicago Bulls as they battled in opposition to the Dallas Mavericks either.

But instead, fans watched this commercial video of Derrick Rose on YouTube. They watched him play outside the basketball court along with the matadors. And yet again, fans rushed to the mall to grab a pair of AdiZero Rose 2 shoes rather than watching the Chicago Bulls home opener next to the Atlanta Hawks.

It seems that the Chicago Bulls fans are not interested with the real game anymore and as a result, there was very little news about it. The rest of the Bleacher Report news talked about some reasons why the NBA lockout can be great for the team and how YouTube can affect the NBA career.

Latest Chicago Bear News

Okay Chicago Bear fans, are you ready for the latest scoop? Apparently, “Angelo is excited to reward Garza with a new deal.” Jerry Angelo, General Manager of the Chicago Bears has signed Roberto Garza to a two year extension through 2013.  Is this the news the players and fans have been wanting to hear? Angelo has stated that “they are all very excited as Garza has been a consistent player with strong leadership skills and abilities.  It is highly likely that Roberto Garza will end his NFL career with the Chicago Bears.”

These changes have been a very positive experience for both the Angelo and Garza. Talks of re-signing other players are always probable as it’s part of business as usual. But for this veteran offensive lineman he has proven more than once in his NFL career that he is dedicated and loyal and shows a true passion for the game. Sure, just like other NFL players, there were no doubt bumps along the way, but that tests a true player’s character.

What are your thoughts on this recent extension? Do you think that Roberto Garza deserves a two-year extension? Did General Manager Jerry Angelo make the right decision not only for Garza, but for the benefit of the team?
