 “Samsung plasma 860″ 2010-06-18
By J. Hunter
I have had the samsung 860 plasma for two months and have enjoyed every minute of the tv. The unit has some slight buzzing, and I mean slight. But every plasma tv has that issue. I have the 60g ps3 and the ps3 is much louder than this tv. If you are debating on purchasing this tv, I say get it while the unit is still for sale. I even suggested to my father that he purchase one, and he did. He talks about how much he enjoys the tv everyday. If you are interested in 3d technology, then I say go with the Samsung C8000 series. But if you want a tv with great picture quality at a lower price, then go with the 2009 860 model. Hope this helps with your purchase!

“Buzzing, Lack of Support Diminish this Product” 2010-05-23
By DIRIGO (Fairfax, VA)
Purchased item but it arrived just after I rtn’d from emergency surgery (I tell you this because it impacted rtn). I set it up on Day 40 only to find the infamous buzzing sound folks blog about and which Samsng admits affects 5-15% of sets, a smaller number than the previous 850 model. Clear interference (think nails on chalk board) at 20-25′ never mind the 15′ feet specified. Called Samsuing for fix. They provided TV repair shop only 9 miles away who would not come out to house due to distance–I had to bring this monster in. I politely declined and Samsung sent me to another Repair Shop. 2nd repair shop did make house calls and said the noise was within parameters and to turn up the volume to hide it. I explained that was impossible when others in the house are sleeping. This buzzing is a known problem and they would not admit they could hear the buzzing. My line of work requires many a course in body language–they were clearly lying. I reported them to ServiceMagic, Angie’s List, and Checkbook. Rtn’d to first store and asked why, at only 9 miles, my house was out of their range. They told me off the record that Samsung never concedes there is an issue, and since there will never be work, it was not worth their time–they quit house calls for this model after 20 for 20 rejections. The distance issue was just a polite excuse. I asked if I brought it in if they would service it; they said Samsung uses firms that will always agree with them, and therefore I would have to pay for the fix in that I was outside 30 day rtn window and buzz was not covered under warranty since a firm already pronounced it nominal–”all plasmas buzz.” Cost would be ~$500 and I would need to rent a truck and find some brothers to help me drag it in and back. I went to local big box stores to investigate buzzing and they told me they had to have the power supply replaced as the buzz was driving customers away altogether. 3 rcmdns folks: 1) Buy locally; 2) Do not buy Samsung Plasma–you don’t want to be in the 5-15% that experience this issue and be denied service with people lying outright on the phone and to your face; 3) if a firm that normally would make house calls does not, don’t let samsung give you another firm–they use foils and destroys your warranty options. HD picture good so gave it an extra star.

“No Buzz – Great picture” 2010-05-18
By Q. Nguyen
After reading multiple reviews, I was very concerned to hear about the buzzing noise from behind the set. Just received my TV yesterday and I have to report that there is no buzz! Very satisfied so far with the TV. It has great picture. Watched the Lakers game on it! Yea! The sound quality on this set is poor. I have a LNT4065 set and the sound on that is much better. Suspect its due to how slim the TV is. Definitely should connect to external speaker and amp. Purchased mine from Amazon for $2146. Ceva Logistics delivered, unboxed and installed the TV. They were ontime and very friendly!

“PN58A showing pink hue all over screen” 2010-05-15
By Catherine H. Briggs (Kirkland, WA United States)
If you like pink when you need white, this TV is for you. 2 months out of warranty and Samsung has no answer beyond a $$ service call from a disinterested 3rd party tech co. 2 months out of warranty and all I get is ” sucks to be you”, effectively. What’s wrong with standing by your product when it’s a know issue? This problem is all over the forums with people having the same problem. Fix it Samsung or go home. You may wish to contemplate their Customer service stance when looking at any Samsung TV product.

“Great Picture, Very Poor Sound” 2010-05-14
By L. Marotta
Good looking TV, worked very well right out of the box. Picture sharp with natural looking color. All connections are in the back making temporary connections a problem unless you have easy access to the back. The sound coming out of the speakers is the worse I have ever heard from a television – very muffled, sometimes diffult to hear dialog. This was not a problem for me as I intended to run the TV through an A/V receiver. The Internet connection worked well and was easy to implement. The connection to the Internet and navigating the menus, however, is very slow.
