Hot Item of 2009 – Zhu Zhu Pet

Zhu Zhu yourself right down to Walmart to buy your kids a Zhu Zhu pet. Or you can buy one on Amazon, but you better do so quickly. The manufacturer may not be able to keep up with the demand. These laid back surfing hamsters are apparently the latest rage.

Not only are 2009 Black Friday sales stimulating our economy, they are being driven by big screen TVs and a new pet – the Zhu Zhu pet.

Time Magazine reported that 2009 Black Friday sales were bustling.

Retailers across the board reported strong crowds early Friday, with high-definition televisions, laptops, winter coats and the popular toy Zhu-Zhu pets among the hottest items. “There were bargain-hungry shoppers out there, and retailers really did pull out all the stops for people,” says Kathy Grannis, a spokesperson for the National Retail Federation, noting that many of the day’s hot item carried the steepest discounts.

    It’s been too late to find one of these in the store for months! My kids saw a TV commercial and wanted them. I found them on ebay, of course, but for more than retail. I paid $20 for one hamster in late October and $40 on another in mid November… Last I heard, they were going for $60 or more now! It’s insane. But the company says they’re shipping more and expanding production, so hopefully these little hamsters won’t cause rioting in the stores like Cabbage Patch Kids and Tickle Me Elmo used to!

    These toys are over rated. Remember the Furby? Same deal. After Christmas, your money is thrown in a pile in the corner because the kids realize that there is nothing magical about them and you wish that you had the 300 bucks back that you foolishly spent.
