Jacksonville LARP 2010

MEETING IS SATURDAY THE 19TH!!! The location will be at the Fletcher soccer field. If you want a say in how the larp should go down then be there, if you can not make it but want your voice heard leave suggestions in the comment area. Also if you are going to try to make it leave a comment.

Alright nerds it is coming to be that time where we try to start up a LARP again. I do not have a date or a place yet for the actual larp because those depend to a degree on how many people are showing up. Also I have not planned out the role play part of it yet, so I am going to be getting together Saturday the 19th to start planning those things out. I would like everybody who is interested to show up.Also if you could leave a comment with your name and level of interest so I can start figuring numbers out that would be awesome.

We will practice and we will have basic larping supplies you can purchase if you need to make a weapon. We will be meeting at Fletcher’s soccer field, it is open to the public on weekends and it is a nice open field. If you plan on coming and needing to make a weapon try to get with me ahead of time so you can make sure I set something aside for you, if not then it will be first come first serve.

I know a lot of seasoned larpers are out at college and will not be able to make it to the planning session but guys still get input just toss your name in a comment and then get in contact with me. I want to pick a date that as many nerds can make it to, that means you Marcus.

Okay so those of you who are making weapons yourself I am sure that you have googled it and come up with a couple of ways to make a larp safe weapon. Here are some requirements that you weapon must meet to join the larp.

  • Spiraling your duct tape up your weapon is generally a no no, but if you have already done this be  sure to poke holes in it so that the foam underneath can breath. If your weapon is spiraled, be prepared not to be allowed in with it. It would be smart to have a secondary weapon just in case.
  • Each end of you PVC pipe needs to be covered with a washer, nickle, or other hard flat round thing. Duct tape it down to it hardcore. This makes sure that your PVC pipe will never poke through when you are stabbing somebody. This rule came after a bloody face…mine. No we can not check to see if you have done this, just do it.
  • Any part of your weapon that could possibly hit somebody needs to be foamed. So you have a great axe? Well every bit of that needs to be foamed to some degree.
  • I am sure there will be more safety suggestion soon feel free to suggest via comment

The RP part of larp

LARP stands for Live Action Role Play. Nerds will be running around pretending they are somebody else. For those of you who do not want to you will not have to for this larp, but you in no way should make fun of those people who are getting into it. For one it is fun to get into it and talk like a medival knight yelling at people in old english. Also it is fun to watch, when somebody is passionate about something it is fun to watch them no matter what it is. Finally it is a larp role play is half the point, deal with it.

Rules Of The LARP

Now these are basic rules of larping in general and are not the more “fun” rules will come once we decide which nations have which powers and all those nerd things. Yeah I said powers. n3rÐ94$m

  • No head shots. More than that though if you hit somebody in the head and chest in the same swing that chest shot does not count. Now on this note it falls on the person getting hit to be fair about this. Example if you get hit in the chust by an upward swing, you step back and the swing follows through to your chin, well then you would probably give the person the kill. This is because it was not only unintentional, but also probably not overly painful.
  • If you take a hit to your arm you unfortunately loose your arm, hit to the leg you lose a leg, somebody sweeps your butt well darn that might even be both legs. This falls on the person being hit to make sure that they are adhering to the rules.
  • Fisticuffs is not allowed unless you happen to have made a powerfist out of foam and cork, at that point your fists become larp acceptable.
  • Shield bashing is acceptable if your shield has been approved for it, that means all the edges are foamed, the shield bashing part is foamed up, and that it is made of a light material like cardboard…make it out of cardboard. If you guys are having troubles making a strong cardboard shield just let me know and I will help you guys out.
  • If two separate people complain about you cheating then you will be watched to see if you are adhering to the rules. If not then you are out of the battle but will be able to join the next one, this of course assumes that you were cheating and not trying to inflict additional bodily harm to somebody than is allowed. Fisticuffs, hitting people in the noggin consistently and on purpose, all that stuff.
