Positively Thankful

November is the time for Thanksgiving in the United States.

A series of events over the last few days has brought me to the conclusion that there is a need for more positivity in our lives. First I read a friend’s facebook post about Oprah’s book choices. The consensus was that there were already enough sad things going on in the world, no one wanted to read fiction about bad things. They wanted to read for entertainment, to be uplifted. Anther friend posted that we should all post one positive story a day to help balance out the negativity we are fed by the news. And just now, as I was thinking about what to write, my husband suggested writing about being Thankful reminding me that it is that season. (It seems they go from Halloween straight to Christmas in our retail world, Thanksgiving seems to get overlooked.)

I have no authority to do this, but I am still going to proclaim November 2009 as the month of being Positive and Thankful. Hopefully it will remind some of you to take the time to be thankful for the positive things in your life, and maybe even in the world.

Today I am thankful for my husband, and not just because he gave me this idea. His name is Ben and the thing that I am most thankful for is that no matter what, he always tries. We will have been married for 7 years come January and we’ve worked hard to get here. Anyone who is married knows that it is not easy; the relationship takes work. It is the closest, most intimate relationship of our lives. I believe the reason we have made it this far is our willingness to compromise, and to always put in effort, always try.

I see too many relationships go bad because one partner  just stops trying. And I am truly thankful that I have a husband who never stops trying. He is a blessing in my life.

I’d love to hear what you are thankful for or any other positive message you may have.
