New 18-acre Solar Garden In Hackettstown, NJ

Mars, the notorious manufacturer of many chocolates such as M+M’s, recently opened up a different kind of garden in New Jersey. They unveiled NJ’s largest solar garden located in Hackettstown this weekend. The 28,000 panels, spread over 18 acres on what was once a vacant lot, can generate up to 2 megawatts of electricity. This is about 1/5 of the energy needed to power the Mars production plant which makes about 340 million M+M’s a year! “If you think about it, every fifth M&M eaten is produced by solar power,” said Thomas Marshall, the Hackettstown zoning board chairman. Watch this video to understand a little more why an unconventional garden like this one is so important.
