Fall is in the air. It is one of my favorite times of the year. There has always been one place I have wanted to visit so I can see the autumn leaves, and that’s New Jersey. I have always wanted to go leaf peeping. It does not seem like a big thing but being able to see the seasons literally change through leaves of trees would be pretty awesome. I have seen many many movies show autumn in New York or New Jersey. It is always so beautiful. This post is going to give you some of the prime places in New Jersey to go leaf peeping.

The very best time to go leaf peeping is the first full week of October and throughout the month. The color change typically starts after the first frost. I am going to take you into the area known as the New Jersey Skylands, the Garden State’s most scenic area for fall foliage. The Skylands include, Warren, Sussex, Morris, Somerset, and Hunterdon counties.

If you are driving by car and just want to ride through some great leaf peeping areas some great places to go are route 23 or highway 206. These roads run through Sussex county. You can drive along route 26 starting at Lambertville and drive down by the Delaware River. There is also the Delaware Water Gap River National Park. You can park the car and enjoy the beauty of the golden leaves on foot.

If you are looking to stay in one spot or make a weekend of leaf peeping there are some wonderful places to stay. There are many B&Bs and campsites to take advantage of throughout Hunterdon County.

There is also one other way to view this beautiful scenic site. I guess I saved the best for last. You can take a hot air balloon up for 1 full hour over Hunterdon County, one of the most popular leaf peeping areas. It is definitely a sight to behold.

These are just a few areas to leaf peep in New Jersey, where you can watch the fall foliage in all its glory. It has to be one of the most beautiful and most scenic times of year in the Garden State.
