 “Great Little Knife” 2010-01-22
By A. W. (Ohio)
When I received this knife, it was very tight in the sheath (as other reviewers have noted) but there is a simple solution. Grab the handle and slightly twist counterclockwise as you pull, the knife will slide out of the sheath easily.

The kydex sheath is not the greatest, the molded clip isn’t removeable and I certainly wouldn’t trust it attached to a boot, but the knife itself is an absolute bargain at this price. The handle is comfortable, the thick blade will take a shaving sharp edge and it’s reasonably lightweight. Overall, a great little slicer to have in your backpack.

“A Boot Knife that is LEGAL!! (I ordered a second one.)” 2010-01-05
By R. Hurd (Frisco, Texas)
HERE’S THE BOTTOM LINE: There are plenty of great boot knife products on the market, if you want to carry what is legally considered to be a “double-edged dagger”, and is therefore ILLEGAL to carry in many states and jurisdictions. This SWHRT1 HRT Tactical is single-edged, not too long, extremely well made, feels good in the hand, has thumb gimping on the spine, has a full tang, and has a deep finger choil to protect you from hand slippage when performing either a thrust or slash cut. The blade is thick, and the scales feel better in the hand than some knives that cost five times as much. (Yes, I have a collection.) SHEATH CHALLENGE: I understand why some reviewers describe problems with the sheath being too tight. However, this can be remedied. Specifically, the first time you extract the knife, do NOT try to pull and pull to remove the knife. (It is dangerous…DUH!). Instead, carefully spread open the plastic sheath where the semicircular molding grips the finger choil, just next to the blade edge. Spreading the sheath at this point will enable the knife to slide out with a firm pull. Using a fine-grained metal file or fingernail file will allow you to carefully reduce the semicircular molding that grips the finger choil.

 “Great Survival Gear” 2009-09-12
By R. Top (San Diego)
Technically designed for maximum impact….this knife locks in place for safety and security….well intended reviewer(s) suggest yanking the knife out of its holster…..the knife is quite sharp & locked in place, yanking it out could damage locking mechanism, not to mention your self …..I grip the knife handle with first 3-fingers & with pointer pinkie gently nudge edge of holster for a quick safe release.

Based on quality/cost ratios, its a steal …. (product description should be corrected as the holster is not leather, thankfully).

 “Moderately good buy” 2009-08-25

Good edge. Well constructed. Need some imagination to attach to boot. Very difficult to remove from sheath but easy to modify the sheath or knife.

“Smith & Wesson SWHRT1 HRT Tactical Boot Knife” 2009-04-30
By Jessica Blackledge (Providence, RI)
I purchased this knife to replace an identical knife that I lost during a move from Alaska to Massachusetts. This knife is wonderful, reasonably priced for what it is, easy to carry and extremely dependable. I am certain that this knife will be the only one I will choose to own for personal use.
