Maine Lemon Law

State of Maine Lemon Laws

Any consumer would be wary when buying technological products and the same applies to cars and other automobiles too. Especially, since automobiles are complex machine built with such technology that cannot be replicated outside for a consumer to easily understand. Unlike a machine like a computer that can be easily assembled or dissembled at home, an automobile cannot be touched at home making it all the more important to be perfectly in order. However, a research shows that one out of every fifty cars is born defective and one among every ten defective cars turns a lemon.

Main lemon laws
are quite comprehensive and protect the interests of most consumers against faulty manufacturing processes and also protects the manufacturers against irresponsible complaints by consumers. As with any other lemon law in the country, Main lemon laws also state that the consumer would need to try to get the vehicle repaired at least three times. This ensures that adequate effort has been put by the manufacturer to identify and rectify the defect in the vehicle, as a replacement is a very costly affair. However, after successive failures the consumer would have the right to approach Maine lemon law arbitration process to help indemnify his loss. One advantage with Main lemon laws over other lemon laws in the country is that, these laws are applicable until 2 years from the date of purchase unlike other states that only provide a year.

However, the following problems are not covered by Main lemon laws:

- When the damage to the vehicle is not substantial and can be repaired with some effort.

-Defects that have been caused due to owner negligence. For example if the owner missed the free services offered by the company and later complains about the vehicles performance, he would lose all rights in this situation due to his negligence.

-Any defect caused to vandalism, accidents or terrorist activities are not covered under the Maine lemon laws

- Any defect caused by unauthorized repair by a third party agent automatically makes the owner lose his rights against the manufacturer or his agents.

One great advantage with Main lemon laws is the fact that even used car owners are eligible for protection. This factor alone makes it much safer to buy cars from the Maine region as the protection is extended not just to new cars but also to used cars.
