The Atomic Flying Fish and other stuff
Jun 29th, 2009 by lgrenville

This is a rare update on my life,

the humble blogger for The Daily Ink.

To start us off I got a hair cut: SUPER SHORT! Remember that long haired girl, well she is no more! Say hello to the new (and improved) me:

photo-69

My hair is pinned back, but I can wear it in a Mohawk (a fake one) or just crazy!

Feed back???

Second in the update is a new fish taco restaurant my boyfriend and I discovered called The Atomic Flying Fish!! Who wouldn’t eat there, honestly? As a pescatarian the pair of us are becoming connoisseurs of good sea food and they deserve an excellent rating. So if you are ever in the Jacksonville area you ought to look them up and grab a bit to eat.

c_41isxeir3on1aby-dqb-324x260Isn’t it a cute little whole in the wall?

This Thursday I will be boarding a plane for CALIFORNIA!! 7 hours spent between airports and airplanes, all to get somewhere and do work. But I am thrilled. I will be building homes on an Indian Reservation in Nevada in 100 degree weather. (More like 107!)

I’m leaving on a jet plane, don’t know when I’ll be back again!

Finally I will be drinking a cup of Parsley tea daily (its the fountain of youth) and living my life with spontaneity!

Isn’t it grand?!?

Michael Jackson
Jun 26th, 2009 by lgrenville

Tragedy seems to be sweeping through the celebrity community. First Ed McMahon, then Farrah Fawcett, and now MJ. Three deaths with in just a few days.
It is so sad that one of the most famous singers of all time has left us at the still youthful age of 50. Whatever his life may have been and whatever we may have thought, today is a tragic day. He set a precedent of artists and revolutionized the music industry.
RIP Michael Jackson.

A tribute:

Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen
Jun 24th, 2009 by lgrenville

At 12:01 (12:06 for me as my particular theater was having ‘technical difficulties’) Transformers 2 opened to the public. The masses came in droves, bringing in a whopping $16 million in the first night alone. (Assuming that all the tickets were $8 exactly that means that 2 million people went to see this movie on opening night!!)

Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen could be categorized as nothing but an action flick. BOOM! BANG! POW! Every shot was a masterfully crafted mix of special affects and death defying stunts. From the ever shifting metal bodies of the transformers to the ridiculously large explosions, Transformers was without doubt an eyeful. Full marks on their creative genius and computer generating skills.

As for the actual plot and content of the film. It was predictable with passable dialogue, but it is an action flick and so these minor flaws are almost expected. It had a pleasant and entertain plot. It didn’t keep you on the edge of your seat, but it did keep you laughing and waiting for more. The acting was fine. It was the actors that were important. A shirtless Shia LaBeouf for the ladies and Megan Fox in short shorts and slow motion for the guys. But like the first movie, you leave the theater having spent 2 1/2 entertained and engrosed in the lives of alien robots.

I don’t think you can really escape seeing this film. It isn’t one to write down as the best movie ever made, but is fun, lively, and over worth watching. So I recommend you take $8, head down to your nearest theater, and watch how Earth was saved from heaps of scrap metal by an alliance between a college kid and robots.

If you need any refresher of what to expect, here is the trailer:

Oh, I also thought you ought to know that Transformers 3 is set to come out in July of 2011. What more could they make a movie about?? Honestly!

A Von Trapp Reunion!?!
Jun 23rd, 2009 by lgrenville

Remember the Sound of Music, well the von Trapp family is having a reunion… They are signing books, singing, and planting trees. Could that get anymore adorable??? But in the mean time they are giving away prizes and looking for your memories about this movie.

I know the Sound of Music was one of my favorite movies growing up. I use to know all the songs (not that I sang very well at all.) I saw it at a friends house and it was the first movie I had seen that wasn’t Disney’s The Lion King.

If you want to share your memory you can go to the Trapp Family Lodge.

A salute to the late Ed McMahon
Jun 23rd, 2009 by lgrenville

A stand up guy, a regular Joe, and the man beside Johnny Carson (for the most part), Ed McMahon had quite the life. His life ended at the age of 86 onĀ  Tuesday in Los Angeles. Ed was the world’s most famous sidekick, Robin to Johnny’s Batman. He will be missed by many who knew and loved the Carson Show.

And now an exert from his life:

Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland
Jun 22nd, 2009 by lgrenville

The story we know of the girl in the looking glass, from the little book by Lewis Carrol to the sweet Disney flick. But now Alice in Wonderland promises something new and ‘wonder’-ful. Under the skillful if not demented creative care of our beloved Tim Burton this film will indeed be a trip - literally.

If you are a stranger to the workings of Tim Burton, having somehow missed such cinematic gems as The Nightmare Before Christmas and James and the Giant Peach, then you are in for quite the surprise. In the wonderland of Burton nothing is as it appears. So take a leave of your senses and set out through the distorted mind of Burton as he weaves this old tale in a haunting new way.

Although this film is set to debut in the year ten we have been given a taste of what is to come…care to take a peek?

It’s SATURDAY!!

Oh What a Glorious Friday…
Jun 19th, 2009 by lgrenville

Its Friday!

To all of you on summer break I am sure that statement doesn’t matter much, but to those of us who work Mon. - Fri. this is welcome news. Friday says, its the end of your long and arduous week. Now you have two full days to enjoy yourself in whatever way you would like. Maybe you will go for a hike along the coast, swim from sunrise to sundown or snuggle up in your PJs and watch an endless amount of movies. I for one will be taking advantage of my new freedom to visit the beach and go to the raw vegan restaurant down the street.

So happy Friday to all you summer breakers and cubical workers!!!

Enjoy and do something LEGEN - (wait for it) - DARY!!!

The World, statistically speaking
Jun 17th, 2009 by lgrenville

Have you ever tried to wrap your brain around the population of the world? 6.77 billion people (and some change) is a lot to fill your head with all at once. We can’t think of them separately, individually, they are a collective, a statistic. The number of people that died last year in car crashes is a statistic. The 31,447,694 people infected with HIV/AIDs is just another figure. Our world is made up of numbers, some that we want hire and others we work to lower.

Aside from the tiny amount of people we know, we don’t ever really see other human beings. They fill in the slots in our records of births and deaths, and we don’t even realize that they actually exist. It is easy to feel nothing for a number. How can one identify with 395,871 (a number)? People identify with one, with an individual. They can know that something is bad when it happens to a group, but they feel something is wrong when they see it happen to that one person they know.

Because our world is a statistic we let tragety after tragety befall it’s citizens. Because we hide humans behind numbers we don’t see the true extent of things. 6 million jews were killed along with 5 million other groups targetted by the Nazi party. Terrible. But because we didn’t connect with the situation we let it go one for far to long. Had we not seen those dieing as a statistic, but has human lives worth savingĀ  we would have acted much quicker.

Anything can be justified with numbers, but ask what it is doing to just one human life? Then you will have your answer.

Today’s statistics…
