Are we Human or are we not?
Jul 30th, 2009 by lgrenville

We are humans but sometimes we seem to forget that fact. There is but one race, the human race, everything else is but a variation in appearance based on environmental adaptations. But as long as we are so intent on dividing yourselves up into classifications we will never be united as human beings. We will always be White, Black, Hispanic, Asian, male, female, gay, straight, etc. With all those categories how can we be seen as a whole? What does it matter what race, gender, or orientation the person next to me is? That person is a human being just as I am.

But people seem to need to exclude those not like them. They feel the need to cling to past wrongs that they weren’t even there for. What is gained in a conference for young black women of America? Why not a young people’s conference of America where the youth of every category can unite and learn to see people as a whole? As long as we perpetuate a divide world so will we be. As long as we hate and blame others for what they have done we will never know anything but hate.

The 911 caller from Cambridge has been portrayed as a racist because people are so quick to anger. They expect to be belittled and discriminated against so they look to see it even when it is not there.

Every culture everywhere has suffered from racism and been enslaved. I see no problem in learning and remembering the past, but to hold on to the pain of our forefathers and blame the descendants of our persecutors will never right a wrong.

Going forward is where we will see change. Let the past stay behind us and let us change our mindset towards what is to come. Only then will we forever tear down our divisions.

Lille by Lisa Hannigan

Its Monday everyone and we all know this is the slowest dreariest day of the week. The weekend has just ended and we are now back to the grind. So take a moment on this Monday and liven it up a little with some music. I promise Lille will brighten any Monday, no matter how dark.

Bo Burnham everyone! Isn’t he great?
My friend and I sung this song last night while dancing on the beach and watching the sand light up with bio-luminescent jellies.

The Atomic Flying Fish and other stuff
Jun 29th, 2009 by lgrenville

This is a rare update on my life,

the humble blogger for The Daily Ink.

To start us off I got a hair cut: SUPER SHORT! Remember that long haired girl, well she is no more! Say hello to the new (and improved) me:

photo-69

My hair is pinned back, but I can wear it in a Mohawk (a fake one) or just crazy!

Feed back???

Second in the update is a new fish taco restaurant my boyfriend and I discovered called The Atomic Flying Fish!! Who wouldn’t eat there, honestly? As a pescatarian the pair of us are becoming connoisseurs of good sea food and they deserve an excellent rating. So if you are ever in the Jacksonville area you ought to look them up and grab a bit to eat.

c_41isxeir3on1aby-dqb-324x260Isn’t it a cute little whole in the wall?

This Thursday I will be boarding a plane for CALIFORNIA!! 7 hours spent between airports and airplanes, all to get somewhere and do work. But I am thrilled. I will be building homes on an Indian Reservation in Nevada in 100 degree weather. (More like 107!)

I’m leaving on a jet plane, don’t know when I’ll be back again!

Finally I will be drinking a cup of Parsley tea daily (its the fountain of youth) and living my life with spontaneity!

Isn’t it grand?!?

It’s SATURDAY!!

Oh What a Glorious Friday…
Jun 19th, 2009 by lgrenville

Its Friday!

To all of you on summer break I am sure that statement doesn’t matter much, but to those of us who work Mon. - Fri. this is welcome news. Friday says, its the end of your long and arduous week. Now you have two full days to enjoy yourself in whatever way you would like. Maybe you will go for a hike along the coast, swim from sunrise to sundown or snuggle up in your PJs and watch an endless amount of movies. I for one will be taking advantage of my new freedom to visit the beach and go to the raw vegan restaurant down the street.

So happy Friday to all you summer breakers and cubical workers!!!

Enjoy and do something LEGEN - (wait for it) - DARY!!!

The World, statistically speaking
Jun 17th, 2009 by lgrenville

Have you ever tried to wrap your brain around the population of the world? 6.77 billion people (and some change) is a lot to fill your head with all at once. We can’t think of them separately, individually, they are a collective, a statistic. The number of people that died last year in car crashes is a statistic. The 31,447,694 people infected with HIV/AIDs is just another figure. Our world is made up of numbers, some that we want hire and others we work to lower.

Aside from the tiny amount of people we know, we don’t ever really see other human beings. They fill in the slots in our records of births and deaths, and we don’t even realize that they actually exist. It is easy to feel nothing for a number. How can one identify with 395,871 (a number)? People identify with one, with an individual. They can know that something is bad when it happens to a group, but they feel something is wrong when they see it happen to that one person they know.

Because our world is a statistic we let tragety after tragety befall it’s citizens. Because we hide humans behind numbers we don’t see the true extent of things. 6 million jews were killed along with 5 million other groups targetted by the Nazi party. Terrible. But because we didn’t connect with the situation we let it go one for far to long. Had we not seen those dieing as a statistic, but has human lives worth savingĀ  we would have acted much quicker.

Anything can be justified with numbers, but ask what it is doing to just one human life? Then you will have your answer.

Today’s statistics…

Thank you Worldometer for these statistics

Larping for a beginner…
Jun 10th, 2009 by lgrenville

So this past weekend I took part in a long held tradition amongst nerd-enthuisists…the LARP!!

LARP - standing for a live action role play

Defined as: a form of role-playing game where the participants physically act out their characters’ actions.

I, along with 60 or so other persons, as fully invested in the event as myself, went to a large camp ground in full battle attire! People could be anything they wanted: Dark elves, Forest elves, Sea elves (that is what I was), Ninjas, Pirates, Assassins, etc. They used foam weapons to beat the crap out of eachother. I must say that the weapons resembling a spear worked the best, though I did see a few bow and arrows that made quick work of the enemy.

Imagine how bizarre we must have looked to all the other ‘normal’ camp ground guests. In fact after my friend and I had changed in the bathrooms and were approaching the battle a man (most definitely a redneck -not that there is anything wrong with that) said to us

“We aren’t in Kansas anymore.”

And indeed we weren’t, we were in the land of Learia, brutally battling for control.

I don’t know if any of you reading have ever been to a larp, but I recommend it whole-heartedly! This is an event that no life should go without…In fact I will be attending one monthly.

If you are interested visit the Life and Whines of David Appelman.

Now for some pictures!! Video will be up eventually…

I am the sea elf (the one in blue). This is a horrible picture!

The wounderful founders of the land of Learia.

The all impressive Marcus and captian of the guard of Trydian (one of the 4 nations).

The flaming sword that kills all that it touches.

I will have more pictures up as soon as I can!!

Yum…Yum…Yum!!
