The 44th president turn 48: Happy Birthday Obama
Aug 4th, 2009 by lgrenville

Happy Birthday President Obama!!

On this day, forty-eight years ago, Barack Obama was born. Who knew that a African American born in such a turbulent time would one day be sitting in the Oval Office celebrating his birthday. In those 48 years he has been alive America has made great progress. We left behind the backwards thinking of the 50s and lived through the revolutionary era of 60s to enter the 70s, 80s, and 90s. We are now living in the 21st century, a time that has seen more equality and acceptance than many others. However, we still have a long way to go to become the nation we have dreamed up.

Well this is my last day blogging for about 2 weeks. I am heading out to California to visit old friends and then going to Nevada to build houses on an Indian Reservation. Technology is not an option (no laptop) but you can follow me on Twitter @LandIsRocks to hear how roofing in 107 degrees is going to feel like. Wish me luck!!

Adios…

A Von Trapp Reunion!?!
Jun 23rd, 2009 by lgrenville

Remember the Sound of Music, well the von Trapp family is having a reunion… They are signing books, singing, and planting trees. Could that get anymore adorable??? But in the mean time they are giving away prizes and looking for your memories about this movie.

I know the Sound of Music was one of my favorite movies growing up. I use to know all the songs (not that I sang very well at all.) I saw it at a friends house and it was the first movie I had seen that wasn’t Disney’s The Lion King.

If you want to share your memory you can go to the Trapp Family Lodge.

Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland
Jun 22nd, 2009 by lgrenville

The story we know of the girl in the looking glass, from the little book by Lewis Carrol to the sweet Disney flick. But now Alice in Wonderland promises something new and ‘wonder’-ful. Under the skillful if not demented creative care of our beloved Tim Burton this film will indeed be a trip - literally.

If you are a stranger to the workings of Tim Burton, having somehow missed such cinematic gems as The Nightmare Before Christmas and James and the Giant Peach, then you are in for quite the surprise. In the wonderland of Burton nothing is as it appears. So take a leave of your senses and set out through the distorted mind of Burton as he weaves this old tale in a haunting new way.

Although this film is set to debut in the year ten we have been given a taste of what is to come…care to take a peek?

You can’t tell me that is not the most awesome thing you have seen in a very long time!!!

Beauty at Home
Jun 12th, 2009 by lgrenville

We women buy countless products that promise a cure to wrinkles or a clearer completion. These miracle bottles litter our counters taking up too much space in your bathroom. But do we really need to pay so much for so many products? Nope, just look in your refrigerator.

I don’t spend huge amounts of money on products, the bare minimum will do. But I am no less vain than the next person. I just use natural homemade remedies and beauty cures. These are a few of my favorites. They are better than then that 50 dollar goop from Olay.

Milk Bath:

In the days of Cleopatra she valued her beauty above most elses. To keep her beautiful skin healthy and glowing she took baths in goat milk. This cleans away dead skin and keeps your skin tone even and glowing. As very few of us have access to a whole bath full of goat milk adding a few cups of milk to your bath or pouring in instant milk has the same affect. Soke, scrub, but make sure to rinse off before getting out. You don’t want to sour.

Shinny Hair:

Beautiful hair is a constant desire of women everywhere. I dye my hair a lot and it can look rather dull, but I use this mix and it definitely has a beautiful shine to it. Its not like the hair models in shampoo commercials, but then again my hair is not what I get payed for.

  • 1 oz. oil of Rosemary

  • 1/8 oz. oil of Lavender

Enough for about 6 months of use. Simply mix the two oils together and store in the dark or in a small amber or light-proof bottle. Put a few drops of the oil on your palm, brush your palm against your hairbrush and then brush your hair.

Stir 1 teaspoon honey into 4 cups (1 quart) warm water. After shampooing, pour mixture through hair. Do not rinse out. Dry as normal.

A refreshing spray that adds shine to hair and is especially good for brunettes; the rosemary brings out natural highlights in dark hair much the way chamomile does for blonde locks. It can also be used to rejuvenate tired skin.

Baking Soda Hair Cleanser:

If you rub a bit of baking soda into your shampoo and then continue to massage it into your hair. This removes any impurities in your hair from products like hairspray and gel.

Cinnamon and Honey:

Mix a little honey with a tsp. of cinnamon into a paste. You can place this on your entire face or just on problem areas (acne/blackheads etc.) over night. This concoction helps clear up your skin and keep it radiant.

Also eating healthy (I am a vegetarian) and exercising as cliche as it seems are two very benefitial tips for staying healthy and beautiful.

There are approximately 105 people with the last name Grenville. This Surname ranks the 144,908 most common in the United States. There are an estimated 54 Females with the last name “Grenville”. However, the first name Landis was not found in our database meaning that you are pretty unique. It is estimated that there are less than 5 people with your exact name in the United States.

At least in that I can claim uniqueness…
