What is Osteopathy?

Osteopathy is a medical term for natural medicine treating the joints, muscles, and spine. It is to help strengthen these areas.  It does not use any traditional medicine, it is strictly holistic. Osteopathy does not only concentrate on the problem at hand but a total body balance, so a person can maintain a fully balance: body, mind, and spirit.

Osteopathy was introduced to the United States by Dr. Andrew Taylor in the late 1800s. He was able to show that if one part of the body suffers the rest of the body takes up the slack for the injured area. It causes the entire body to be thrown off balance. Osteopaths use a range of hands-on methods to help with problem areas to alleviate pain, so the body functions in its entirety.

Osteopaths have been known to work in conjunction with doctors. The doctors treat the symptoms medically while the Osteopaths treats with holistic procedures. Osteopaths can ease pain and help with joint mobility, so you can get around easier.

Osteopathy is a recognized field of medical study. In order to be an Osteopath you must do a 5 year university course. Your studies include a degree and a master qualification. So it is a very real field of study, although it’s strictly holistic.
