Mad Men vs. TravelZoo Twitter – C’mon People!
I just got some disappointing news. Not only did Mad Men not win every category they were nominated for, they just got beat by TravelZoo for best Twitter community.
What REALLY got me was when I realized I (a self-proclaimed Madmeniac) wasn’t even following Mad Men on Twitter.
Run through this with me…
Here is TravelZoo’s Twitter – with about 11k followers – and easy to understand value. Nothing fancy, but I quickly understand that if I follow them, every day I can get a good deal on travel.
Now, Madmeniacs, try searching, try typing in random URLS…try whatever you can to even find MadMen on Twitter…. NOTHING comes up with the exception of a few half-way personal Twitter groups created by obvious Don Draper stalkers.
After wasting about 30 minutes at work (yes, my Mad Men addiction is in full swing and negatively affecting my life), trying to find the dang Mad Men Twitter page (I eventually found it linked from AMC’s website), I joined up with the other 6,500 or so Mad Men fans who also managed to find it.
Come on people, let’s rally – Mad Men is clearly the best show on TV, and by far has the best fans. So in the spirit of the Sterling Cooper “do whatever it takes to win” attitude, we should have 10x the Twitter activity than TravelZoo (or any other Twitter Group for that matter). If we are TRUE fans we certainly never would have let this happen in the first place.
Our only chance is to create such a Twitter Storm that this type of embarassing defeat can never happen again!
