Wish: Eleven years ago I came down with spinal meningitis. I made it through alive, not many do. I thank God and the skill of some very special doctors for this. The resulting aftermath was a long and hard road, I had to learn to walk and talk again. They had to remove my balance nerves, my ear drums, and part of my memory lobe. It also killed all my teeth. I have recently gotten a cochlear implant so I am now able to hear after ten years. I was lucky to have health insurance, but it doesn’t cover dental, and as the doctors predicted, they are now falling out like chiclets. This is both embarrassing and humiliating as I look awful. I was forced to retire from a job I loved as I was no longer able to remember my job tasks. I have just gone through a horrifying divorce from a man that had beaten and abused me for 25 years and I had to move 600 miles away from my kids and grandkids so that he can’t find me. I spent Thanksgiving alone and it looks like I will spend Christmas alone because I am living on a small pension, he has refused to pay alimony and while this winds through the court system I am barely able to pay my house payment and utilities. I would love to be able to get a set of dentures, but the $2000.00 is way beyond my reach. I guess you could say that “All I Want for Christmas is My Two Front Teeth”, and all the rest of them too.
