Follow Up To Role Models…

This is a quick follow up to my original post on role models…I was very encouraged that it stirred up conversation via my facebook!  I actually was shown a great perspective that I hadn’t thought about by a good friend!  By the way, this isn’t a plug but if anyone is interested and needing some custom tees, they do great work and the prices are extremely reasonable!  Check out tshirtspot if you have a chance…back to role models.  My eyes were opened when she said, “it’s (being a role model) earned in someone else’s eyes not your own”…yes I have to agree that if someone looks up to you, admires you for your character, talent, intelligence, or other unique ability, they have the privilege to say “in my eyes, you are my role model.”  You (as the bestower) cannot control that…I see that being a very important part of society in our own lives.  I see that it helps young folks to have someone to admire and hope to be like one day.  It provides future generations with the ability to perhaps see themselves in the future…we don’t want to take that away ever.

Let me clarify my original piece by directing it back to the media for creating super humans out of ordinary people who just happen to possess extraordinary talent or the ability to attract thousands of followers to what they do or say…it’s the exaggeration of folks like this who end up being in the limelight all the time that somehow makes them a role model…it doesn’t…(Charles Barkley, Dennis Rodman, Michael Vick, Steve McNair)
