40th Anniversary of Moon Landing Celebrated with… Moon Pie!

Tuesday, July 21st, 2009

To celebrate the 40th Anniversary of Apollo 11′s historic landing on the moon, NASA had a giant moon pie created for guests of the Kennedy Space Center at Cape Canaveral, FL. According to Yahoo! News, the pie is 40 inches in diameter and weighs 55 pounds. Fourteen of those pounds are made up of marshmallow (a traditional moon pie is made up of marshmallow sandwiched between two round graham crackers and dipped in chocolate).

In the middle of all of the tributes and recognitions going on right now to commemorate the moon landing and all of the people who made it possible, it’s a nice whimsical touch to have a moon pie be part of the celebration. And it looks DELICIOUS.

Solar Eclipse

Tuesday, July 21st, 2009

On July 22, 2009 there will be a solar eclipse, the longest on record. Experts estimate that it will be completely eclipsed for 6 1/2 minutes. In all the eclipse will last 3 hours. Unfortunately North America will be blind for this momentous event. Only those in Southeast Asia and the Pacific will get this opportunity to see the world go dark. Those of us in North America will not get a chance to see a solar eclipse until 2011. Its going to be a long wait.
