Saunas and Their Benefits

You won't find this one in the gym!

Almost all health clubs and gyms now include saunas as part of the services offered. But, if you’ve never been to a sauna, you might not know how to use it or what the benefits are. The truth is that while the use and means of creating saunas is often seen as a modern luxury, saunas have their own place in history that range from family tradition to religious ceremonies.

A sauna is basically a heated room or building. The comfort level of the room is adjusted by controlling the humidity in the room. The temperatures in some saunas would be intolerable if it weren’t for the ability to adjust the humidity.

Though various cultures have their own uses for saunas, today they are often used as part of a health regime or as a means to calm the senses. Depending on the manner of heating the sauna, various scents can be used to create a comfortable atmosphere.

Not only can people benefit from the calming sensation found in saunas, they can also benefit by using the sauna for detoxification. The human body is a wondrous machine that has its own way of expelling toxins. Sweat is just one of the ways that toxin can be released from the body. A sauna promotes sweat so that the toxins are released. There are even theories to suggest that weight loss can occur from the use of saunas since some water weight is lost and the toxins that are removed from the body may be toxins that were preventing weight loss.
