Ten-Digit Damages in Water Drinking Contest Trial?

kdnd20water20death20jennifer20strange20morning20raveRemember Jennifer Strange, the woman who died after winning a “water-drinking” contest back in 2007? You can read about this story here. Well, the jury is deliberating the fate of the company that owns that radio station. Entercom is the company. The jury reportedly asked  for access to Microsoft Excel, but Judge Lloyd Phillips refused, giving them instead a standard eight-digit calculator. Apparently that wasn’t enough, because they sent it back asking for a 10-digit calculator. Let’s see, what is the smallest 10-digit number: That would be a one with nine zeroes, right? How about this:

$1,000,000,000

That is one BILLION dollars folks. Could this jury be considering awarding the family of Jennifer Strange over a billion dollars?

I guess all you radio station promotion directors out there should remember this when planning your giveaways. Do your homework.

Balloon Boy Charges

Balloon Boy and Family

Balloon Boy and Family

Sounds like the balloon boy incident was indeed a hoax. The po-po have implied that they might even have a confession.

Contributing to the delinquency of a minor, conspiracy to influence a public official, filing a false police report, these are a few of the charges that could put the parents of Falcon Heene, aka balloon boy, in prison for as much as 6 years each.

The worst thing about this is that the kids must be scared to death about losing their parents to a prison sentence.  But maybe they will be better off in foster care for a while. I doubt that any foster parents would chance taking them into the direct path of a tornado like dad Richard Heene has done. If he wants to be a storm chaser, that’s fine. Let him do it. But those kids rely on him to make decisions like that for them. It’s ok to risk your own life if you want but don’t force them to do it. When they are old enough they can choose to accompany him into the eye of the storm if they want. But for now, he should keep them safe. That is a parent’s number one prioirty–the safety, health and happiness of their children. He has endangered all three priorities.

Balloon Boy Pukes on Today Show

Amid accusations that the Balloon Boy event was a hoax to promote Wife Swap, the TV show that this family is involved in, the story gets even messier. Literally.

Falcon Heene, the Balloon Boy from yesterday, and his family were on the Today Show on NBC this morning. He’s a cute little boy, but this morning he didn’t look so good. Watch the video to see what happens.

Balloon Boy

I was captivated for a little while yesterday by all the talk and video of a “weather balloon”-type helium balloon floating across the countryside, supposedly with a little boy in it. It was kinda scary when they reported on CNN that a “box” had been seen falling out of the balloon. Could the little boy have been in the box? When he wasn’t found in the balloon after it finally landed on the ground, that was the fear.

Of course, it turned out alright since he was hiding in a box in the attic above the garage at home the whole time.

But look how quickly this story overtook the news around the world, and especially how fast it conquered the web! This story was by far the most searched on Google yesterday, and as of right now it still ranks high. Was this a publicity stunt for the tv show the family appears on, Wife Swap? The dad is adamant that it was not. But how many viewers will that show gain from all this publicity? One can only guess. At least until the ratings come out.
