The saying “it takes a village to raise a child” is no joke and keeping them safe is part of the parental duty we take on as parents. I wanted to share a true story that happened to me this morning, the office I work for decided we would go and help clean up one of the local parks here in Fl. The state keeps up the park however our boss thought it would be a great team building effort, and it turned out great until one of the guys in the office comes back and tells us that he has found women’s clothes and shoes, and something that looked similar to bone. Scary! Lucky for us, a police officer was leaving the park as we were all standing around talking about this scary discovery, naturally we flagged him down we tell him about our findings. To our extreme surprise he replies to the information we have just given him with “there have not been any missing persons reported lately”! Yes, a police officer said this…we were all shocked. He left and went home no thinking that this could have been someones daughter or mother that they have been searching for day in and day out. We all came back to the office a little disturbed by his behavior, so we called the local police department and made sure that we had reported it. Never forget the police officers are only human as well, and make mistakes, however some make the choice to turn a blind eye. This is proof you can never be too safe, keep your family close and take every precaution you are capable of!

As I was browsing around today online, I came across a very interesting device called a “Child Locator”, offered by BrickHouse it has very many intriguing features for a parent. The locator is able to alert you when your child wanders out of the range capability of the tracker and you can either attach the tag to clothing, or separately purchase a wristband for your child to wear like a watch. It comes equipped with a “panic tag” for your child to press if he/she feels threatened or lost and has a range of 600 feet outdoors, and 250 feet indoors which leaves a lot of parents at ease when your in public with the little one. It’s also very helpful knowing that your child has control of letting you know if they are in trouble. If you have more than one kid, no worries you also have the ability to track more than 1 child at a time. While I have made this seem as if it is the answer to so many parents prayers, it does have a few cons; It doesn’t offer “real time” GPS tracking and you have to purchase the wristband separately. Other than that, I personally think this seems to be an amazing gadget to help keep the kiddies safe!

Sexual predators can sometimes be the people you least expect them to be, such as priests, teachers, and even family members. The last thing in the world you can imagine is your child coming to you and telling you they have been touched somewhere they shouldn’t have, you don’t want to feel that type of guilt. So I have come to give you tips to help you protect your child against these monstrous acts that others feel so compelled to commit, as a mother I would really want to hurt someone if I received this type of news. So to avoid any pain for you or your children, I have tried to put together a list of things that can help you avoid this.

Talk to your child about things going on in their life

Educate your child on what is right and what is wrong

Encourage your child to NOT to be afraid of coming to you with any concerns they may want to talk about (as a child I know my parents were the last people I wanted to talk to)

Find out if your local school has a program to help you educate them further as well

Keep your little one safe!

You can never be too safe, so don't gamble with your child's life by hiring a sitter that you aren't 100% sure about! Make the right decision and don't hire a sitter without know the facts first!

Find the sitter that's right for you.

If you have ever considered the idea of hiring a babysitter to give you and your husband a little alone time, you should consider a background check first! This is especially true when hiring people you don’t know very well, or even at all. When interviewing the person you have chosen, inform them during the process that there will be a check performed and ask for there permission before doing so. Document their permission by having them sign a form before you go forward with the background check. This will help you weed out out the bad from the good and typically people who have something to hide will decline signing this form to save them from embarrassment. If this happens you know right away not to hire them, narrowing the select few you have chosen to interview down even further and closer to that special sitter!
There are many places to do this online, but make sure you go through a reputable company to guarantee accurate results. I’m currently using Net Detective, and they have always given great results, which make more relaxed when I’m away from home. If you are weary about using online sites go through your local government. There are plenty of options to suit your expectations and needs. You can never be too safe, so don’t gamble with your child’s life by hiring a sitter that you aren’t 100% sure about! Make the right decision and don’t hire a sitter without know the facts first!

The United States Postal Service issued a postage stamp commemorating AMBER Alerts in May 2006. This 39-cent stamp features a drawing by artist Vivienne Flesher. This chalk pastel depicts a reunited mother and child, with the text “AMBER ALERT saves missing children” across the bottom pane. The stamp was released as part of the observance of National Missing Children’s Day, which is coming up again soon. The day of Etan Patz’s disappearance May 25th is a day that has been recognized since 1983, and it marks a nationwide commitment to help locate and recover missing children. National Missing Children’s Day honors this commitment through its efforts to reminde parents, guardians, and other trusted-adult role models to make child safety a priority

There was an Amber Alert issued Wednesday morning right after a father entered home on the base and abducted his two children without permission. Military officials say the father, who was identified as 35-year-old Allen Fish, does not have custody rights to his children.

Around 6:45 a.m. Fish came into the house and took the two kids. Witnesses say that he jumped into a silver Honda Element with Oregon plates though the letters are unknown, and he was last seen heading south on Interstate 5 toward Oregon. Fish is around 6-feet-4-inches tall, and weighing 220 pounds with blond, balding hair and blue eyes. He has two tattoos located on his back and shoulders that are of Chinese symbols. He was wearing a dark T-shirt and blue or black jeans.

Reuben Fish is 5-years-old, and of Philippine descent. He is 3-feet tall, weighing 55 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes. The last time he was seen he was wearing two-piece pajamas with a spaceship pattern. Dylan Fish is 4 years old, also of Philippine descent, and is described as 2 feet, 5 inches tall, weighing 50 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes. He was wearing matching pajamas with a spaceship pattern.

Reports indictate that Allen has a violent history, and there were several instances of domestic violence. He is to be considered dangerous, and any information you have about him or his children is extremely helpful.
