Teenager has to Regiter as Sex Offender for Sexting

Florida teen, Phillip Alpert, was arrested for child pornography and had to register as a sex offender.  This incident occurred after Phillip tried to get the attention of his ex-girlfriend.  He was angry he couldn’t get a hold of her and in his rage he sent explicit picture of her that she gave him to all of his friends, to get her attention,

I believe the punishment in this case, is a little server.  There is a difference between a grow man having and sending child pornography and a child having pictures of another child.  That is a natural part of life, young people have been exploring there sexuality from a long time now and it will continue.  The times have changed, now we have technology that can record and send anything.  With that being said, that still doesn’t make what Phillip did right, but now the young man is going to be labeled for life as a sex offender and he was a child himself at the time.

People being labeled as sex offenders is a great way for parents to know if there is a child predator in their area.  The court systems does need to be careful not to hand the title with little regard.  This is not the first case, in fact their are many cases, of teens being labeled as sex offenders for having sexual activity with a consenting teenage partner.

Aggresive Sex Offender Strikes Grandma and Grand Daughters in Park

29-year-old sex offender Ryan Yates has been in and out of prison since he was 14.  He has a long track record of sexual attack and violence, and authorities are now really scrutinizing how such an obviously threatening man was let out into the world.
“There has to be a review, because this is not the first time that the system has failed. Grampian Police said he was complying with the terms of his order but he was still able to commit this awful offense.”
Conservative MSP John Lamont added: “Time and time again we have said that merely placing somebody on the sex offenders register is not enough.”

Less than a week after being released from prison on October 14 of 2009, Yates attacked a Grandma in Westfield Park in Aberdeen’s Bridge of Don area to try to get to her two grand daughters so he could abduct and rape them.  He openly admitted that he was “find some children to have sex with” after being caught.  He had walked up to them and pulled a knife on the Grandma, but she was able to disarm him while her 8-year-old grand daughter was able to get away with her 2-year-old sister.  She quickly grabbed the bottom of the blade and the top of the blade handle while she kicked at her attacker.
Advocate depute Alan Mackay said: “While walking in the park the younger child asked to come out of her buggy. The grandmother bent down to unbuckle the child from the buggy and noticed a pair of legs standing very close to her.”
“She stood up and saw the accused less than an arm’s length away. He was holding pointed kitchen knife with a serrated edge,” said the prosecutor.  Yates had thrust the knife towards the woman’s chest.

Detective Superintendent Brian Yule said: “At the time of his arrest, Yates had fully complied with all the conditions relating to his registration and our officers had visited him regularly in the days after his release.”
Last night a spokesman for the Scottish Government dismissed calls for a review of sex offender management, saying three had already taken place since devolution.

He added: “Although we do not comment on individual cases, orders for lifelong restriction – effectively a discretionary life sentence for high risk offenders – now exist and we will continue to support the judiciary when they impose these.”

Government Departments in the United States

Keeping up to date with the latest news about sex offenders and criminals on the loose or getting caught is ideal for parents to stay aware of faces and places for the safety of their children.  This is as far as a lot of people can do, but there are also a surprising number of things parents and adults can do as well.  Check out your local government websites, or even stop at your local Police Department or other government building to find out about the different programs you can participate in to help prevent more terrible news.  The more help there is and eyes there are, the less kids, and other victims will have to suffer from such cruelty.  This in turn will help to break many cycles of people repeating these acts.  Here are a few different resources from each state in the United States that could help you or a friend to save many lives.

Child Safety Collection

In this day and age there are plenty of ways to go about getting information. You can go the old fashion route and read books, encyclopedias, and newspapers or you can use the ultimate source of information, the internet. Obviously you chose the latter if you are here, which is good! The internet isn’t the hive of scum and villainy it is normally portrayed as being, but an open-source tool that should be used to discover new things and gather information. This is especially useful in developing new ways to keep your children safe. I have collected an array of videos from YouTube that should aid in you and your quest to maintain safety for your kids and you.

Sex Offender Release Law up in the Air

Grayden Comstock is a convicted sex offender behind bars after taking part part in child pornography.  Just a few days before his release, he was informed he would not be let out because he was a sexual danger to society.  Now, three years later, this case is being over viewed by the Supreme Court because of arguments against the 2006 Adam Walsh Protection Act.  This act allows the Federal Government to deem a person to prison for life even after a states rule if they are extreme sexual predators.

This causes a disturbance about the governments power among many justices, including Antonin Scalia who said, “this is a recipe for the federal government taking over everything.”

“If the state’s not going to do it, the federal government must do it,” said victims’ rights advocate Martin Andrews, who was abducted by a repeat sex offender when he was 13 years old, buried in a box and left for dead.  This law, if in affect at the time, would have completely stopped this from happening.

“If this is overturned, I hope the Congress has the good sense to go back and rewrite their law and come back and try again,” Andrews said.

What constitutes a sex offender?

sexual-offender

A sex offender is any person who committed a sex crime, but what exactly constitutes a sex crime? It varies place to place, jurisdiction to jurisdiction. In most jurisdictions, offenses include child sexual abuse, downloading child pornography, rape, and statutory rape. These are the things we think about when we see sex offender. However in much of the United States smaller more petty crimes such as public urination, mooning, streaking, and the failure to prevent one’s own teenage children from engaging in otherwise consensual sexual activity also result being designated as a sex offender. All of these people have to register as sex offenders on the publicly searchable lists.

So how do you know which sex offendors to be extra wary of since the term applies to anybody who was caught mooning somebody in highschool, to a serial rapist. Well the term sexual predator generally reserved for severe or repeat sex offenders. Also when looking up sex offenders you can in most cases see specifically what sort of offender they are.

World of Warcraft: A Place for Sexual Predators

42-year-old (yes you heard right, 42 years old!) Laurie Price is currently in jail for luring a 16-year old boy away from his home to have sex with him.  She flew from Canada, for the SECOND time, and was able to get the boy away from his home and to a hotel where she had sex with him.  She had started talking to him over a year before on World of Warcraft, sending him persistent and intense sexual messages.

“From our investigation, we have thousands of e-mails and instant messages to go through. She was very persistent to say the least,” Gray said.

Her first visit was a failure, and the 15-year-old would not leave his house with her.  After months more of creeping him on the internet, she was able to manipulate the KID’s feelings and hormones.

“She talked to him about sex and a lot of different stuff. It was a very long, long grooming process. She thought that in February she had him at that time. She continued to work on him until she finally felt she broke through,” he said.

On Dec. 29, Price flew back to Canada and lured the teen from his home, taking him to a hotel in Rosseau, about 70 miles away, and having sex with him, Gray said.  The teen had left a note for his mother saying he was running away with Price.  Authorities were then on the lookout when off-duty police officer in Rosseau spotted the two at a hotel.

Price is now charged in Houston by prosecutors with two accounts of online solicitation of a minor and one count of enticing a child with the intent to commit a felony.  In Canada the legal age of consent to sex in 16, but she is still facing even greater charges in the United States.  Tuesday, January 5, she was arrested at the Houston’s Bush Intercontinental Airport once returning to the states.  Her first court appearance was Wednesday morning.

Sadly, this woman is the mother of 4 children, while holding a position of a permanent substitute teacher at Cypress-Fairbanks school district in suburban Houston, where she was immediately fired after her arrest.  Price is being held in the Harris County Jail under bonds totaling $20,000.  She faces 2 to 10 years in prison upon conviction, and up to $10,000 dollars for each charge.

Let’s keep her children in our prayers and our hearts, because they are facing great shame, embarrassment, confusion, and most of all a terrible example and scarring.  Let us hope that they grow stronger and into better people than their mother.  She has left a terribly rocky road for them.
