A Solar Powered Lawnmower? Why Didn’t I Think Of That

Friday, February 12th, 2010

Think about it for a second, a solar powered lawnmower, that is a really good idea. You are out in the sun all day, and you have to get all that work done, that is just a no brainier. This solar powered contraption is the brain child of Studio Volpi, a company that has already had lots of great ideas for things that we use every day.

Speaking of awards, this design has already won a number of them, most of them are coming from the way this lawnmower works which, I have to admit is awesome. The only problem with it is that it’s only a concept at the moment. Ya, they won’t officially make one which is a real shame considering all the craze with anything considered green or eco-friendly. But who knows, maybe they will build one sometime into the future. Until then, we can only stare, and dream about what could have been.

Landscaping 101 in New Jersey

Wednesday, February 10th, 2010

Trying to create a visually appealing landscape design for your home on your own can be a very daunting task. There are so many variables to think about that it can leave your head spinning if you try to take on too much at once. Start small and work from there. When you are first getting started just remember the basics of landscaping:
Scale
Form
Color
Line
Texture

Scale is pretty easy. How does the size of one plant relate to another and do they look good next to each other or do they look out of place? Color is pretty much self-explanatory as well. If you have a basic understanding of what colors look good together and what colors don’t you should have no problem arranging some eye catching arrays. Form is all about relating a bush or shrubs shape to other plants shapes. For example, planting small round bushes around a large weeping willow would look fantastic visually. It’s all about relating the composition and shapes of different shrubberies. Line refers to your line of sight. You have to make sure everything looks good from the road as this will be where most people view your lawn. This should be influenced by the plants arrangements on a horizontal and vertical plane. Texture has a lot to do with how the surface of the plants look in relation to each other. Each object should have textural similarities to surrounding objects so as not to look too out of place.

Growing Edible Plants In West Orange, New Jersey

Wednesday, February 10th, 2010

Many people love to grow plants, fruits, and even vegetables, depending on where you live it may prove to be more of a challenge to grow these in your back yard.

For the people living in West Orange it shouldn’t be that hard, all you really have to do is plant the seeds, water them, care for them like you would any other plant and soon you’ll have a beautiful garden on your hands. Then from there on out just tend to it often and it should begin to flourish. On the other hand growing fruit and vegetables can be a little more difficult. These kinds of Vegetation’s call for a little more tender loving care.

Some things to keep in mind when growing edible plants are to always check up on them, be careful when buying specific fertilizers and bug repellents. The last two especially because they can make the difference between delicious fruit and dead fruit. And since edible plants can take up to over a year to grow, its really disappointing when they are finally ready to eat but are hazardous to your health because of the chemicals that were applied while growing them.

There are also other dangers that can hinder your fruits from growing properly. The biggest threat to your plants is going to be the weather! The weather in West Orange weather can get pretty harsh seeing how the average coldest temperature is about 18 degrees and highest is about 85 degrees. So keep the weather conditions in mind when growing your amazing fruit and you’ll have a bountiful garden before you know it.

Tortoises Are Very Good Gardeners

Friday, February 5th, 2010

If you have a very wide and varied garden or landscape, with plants ranging from fruit to flowers. Then you might want to consider getting a tortoise. I’ve been living next door to a lady who has one and I didn’t even know it. I’d never seen her back yard and the one time I actually took a look over the fence I saw flowers of all kind and even fruits apples, oranges, and lemons all over the place. It was beautiful, then out of nowhere there was this huge rock that was moving! It caught me completely off guard so I told the owner of the house that she had a moving rock in her backyard, she then took to her backyard and showed me that it wasn’t in fact a rock but a tortoise she said it was about 103 years old and that it was a lot of help with her garden. She said that he ate any fruit that fell off the trees and fertilized the grass with his waste. Aparently it must have been a lot of help. So if you love your garden, but also want a pet that won’t destroy your green palace then you should really think about getting a tortoise.
