Today, my baby boy turns 10. It happens to be Sunday; and, every Sunday we make chocolate crepes. Yesterday, Jack found some safety goggles while we were on a walk. He wore them while we made the crepes.

We invited a few people over for dinner and I was prepared to make him a chocolate cake with chocolate frosting. I assumed that is what anyone would want. “Wait mom!,” he said. “I want a yellow cake with chocolate frosting.” I was confused. He doesn’t want chocolate on chocolate? I had never heard of such a thing. After a small interrogation, I realized he was serious. So, a yellow cake it is.

I had to look up a recipe because I had never made a yellow cake before. Here it is:

We have star shaped cake pans. He wanted the stars to be at an angle. He wanted it to look like two stars. So I had to turn the top layer to the side a bit to make it look like two stars.

We didn’t have birthday candles, so we put a taper candle smack in the middle of the cake. We do this for every birthday. I am not sure what he wished for; but, I think he had a very happy birthday.
