I ordered two sink drains and both have obvious flaws in workmanship. One fixture has a deep pitting through the satin finish and into the underlying brass. The other had an uneven finish coating with an unfinished area appearing to be scortched or blackened.

To be fair this is a reflection of poor quality by the parts manufacturer(or their supplier). Unfortunately, this also means that the vendor shipped these parts to their customer.

In the future, I will buy locally in a situation where I can inspect the product before making a purchase. My choice of fixture will be based on the availability and inspection of all required parts before purchase.

We remodeled our kitchen three years ago, from floor to ceiling. My previous sink was cast, and was very porous. We chose the American Standard Americast Silhouette Sink. It was beautiful for the first year. I even used Windex to clean it, because the guideline said NO abrasives. The coating (whatever it is) has worn off, and I have to bleach the sink everyday, to restore the color. Very Big Mistake, and costly too. I will now be looking for a Stainless Steel Sink. Not too fond of wiping water spots on stainless, but it beats stains on a constant basis.

I would probably be considered lucky. We replaced our kitchen sink with a two bowl, top mount, white americast sink 12 years ago. The sink chipped within the first few months when a dish I was washing slipped from my hand. The sink became scratched very early on and stains rapidly. I can only get the sink white by using a bleach & water soak. Today I climbed under the sink to replace a faucet to find that the outer polymer layer was BADLY cracked. One crack goes from the dispose toward the back of the sink and a second intersects the crack from the disposer and goes completely across the sink. Needless to say – I chose not to replace the faucet at this time.

Overall this sink was a disappointment. I would not buy an americast sink again.

I would never buy an Americast sink again. Americast is composed of a core layer of steel sandwiched between a surface coating of porcelain and a ¼ inch substrate of a hard plastic composite material. An Americast sink looks like a porcelain-coated cast iron sink, but weighs about 60% less than cast iron. Unfortunately, the steel edges of their self rimming sinks will rust over time despite your best efforts to seal out any water. After about tens years rusted areas along the sink rim will bulge and the porcelain will pop off. Also, if you use an electric waste disposer, within a year the disposer vibration will crack the composite substrate which will then separate from the steel core. This can create leaks and rusting around the disposal. Given these problems, I am amazed that American Standard is still selling Americast sinks. Don’t buy one.

 “Poor packaging is a shame” 2010-04-07

I ordered this item from Amazon after searching everywhere since it had been discontinued from the manufacturer. It is exactly what I wanted for our home. The item was shipped quickly but it was poorly packaged. There was only styrofoam on one end of the box instead of all sides – allowing the sink to move during transit. FedEx left the box at the front door so I did not see the damage until long after they left. One corner of the sink had been hit hard and the white enamel finish was chipped away, about 2′ wide and 1″ tall. The silicone sealer they send with the sink was not secure in the box and was smashed by the moving sink causing it to burst and leak everywhere. I scraped the silicone off and thought I could undermount the sink to hide the chipped corner, but there was also another scratch on the opposite side of the top which would be seen. It is too bad that poor packaging allowed this sink to be damaged, I would have been happy with it had it arrived in good shape.

Installed this faucet, simple to do. Turned faucet on to test. And when you use the sprayer water still comes out of faucet. Very heavy stream, so not much through sprayer. Contacted American Standard and they said diverter valve bad. And they sent the part only. You have to take the faucet all apart to install the diverter valve. Which I have not tackled that project. I would of prefered that they send me a complete new faucet. Should not have to replace a part and hope that fixes the problem. Will probably just purchase another faucet, not American Standard this time.
