I have been listening to the Black Lips all day and it feels wonderful! The Black Lips hail from Atlanta, Georgia and are, according to Wikipedia, a “flower-punk” band. I would say this is a justified description, as their music is equal parts sweet nostalgia and equal parts loud, grainy, saturated rock ‘n roll. The band is led by Cole Alexander, Jared Swilley, Ian Saint Pe and Joe Bradley. I saw them last March (I believe) at Jack Rabbits and it was seriously mind-blowing; my brain was producing all sorts of DMT that night. Now, I am not a big fan of fans, but I really do feel as if the Black Lips are one, if not thee, best band to come out in a very long time. Their music has a soulful authenticity that is hardly auscultated these days. I could go on to illustrate their genius through my words, but I’ll let their music do the talkin’!
