Brown Mound
The Brown Mound is an invention of Jean Pain, but was recently brought into fruiting again by Galean Brown. The principle of this is extremely simple: a bio mass undergoing anaerobic digestion gives off heat. There is no reason why this heat can not be harnessed cheaply and simply. Galean used wood chips, but you could use any biomass. This system has been proved successful before, and Jean Pain supposedly was able to get a gallon of water at around 140 degrees each and every minute. Now if this system is again proved successful and gains enough public interest, we could see similar systems being put to use in landfills instead of needing to create more. It is not as though there is a lack of decaying biomass in the world. The system had at one time a start up cost of $1,050 dollars, including labor and supplies, but will theoretically supply all the warm water a home needs, and 20% of the heating needed in Winter.

Wow, I need to get hooked up with one of these. I am so for more efficient living, it is our responsibility.
