2010 Social Media Trend Calendar

Dear marketing community,

I’ve just started planning for 2010…

I actually said ‘0-10’ in a planning meeting this morning. At that moment I realized that not only is the new year quickly approaching, it’s an awkward year to say via abbreviation.

What better time than these last weeks before the winter break to sit down and plan your marketing strategy for 2010.

Our business is very much focused around the major discussions that happen each day on the web.

While we can’t always predict what and why these spikes will happen, we can plan for known events.

(I can’t believe Yovia missed International Talk-like-a-pirate Day this year)

Please use this free calendar to plan your 2010 marketing strategy.

To your success in 2010 and beyond.

Spread the word,

Worldwide Biggies gives birth to Bigby

No, Albie Hecht is not crazy.

Four years ago, he had a dream job.

Albie Hecht: Creating content for the iPhone

As president of Viacom’s Nickelodeon, he launched hit kids shows like Dora The Explorer and SpongeBob SquarePants. He went onto start the monolithic media company’s edgier Spike TV channel. According to CNN.com:

Then Hecht stunned colleagues. He quit his job at Viacom (Charts) in 2005 and founded Worldwide Biggies, a seat-of-the-pants operation devoted to creating the next kids entertainment phenomenon - not on television, but the Internet. “I’m throwing away a great career,” Hecht, 54, said half in jest. “A lot of people think I’m totally mad.”

Four years later, he may have proven his critics wrong. With old media struggling to catch up with a rapidly changing video game ‘game’, Albie and co. may be in the exact right place, and time.

Thanks to Hecht, the world is about to meet Bigby, a pirate-fighting, loveable little character. There is a catch: Bigby will premiere not on Nick at Nite or Disney - but on your iPhone.

Produced in partnership with online gaming giant Addicting Games, the Bigby game is based on an 8-year-old crime-fighting genius, who wears a bear suit, fights off pirates and dragons, and only eats chicken parmesan.

Keep an eye out for Bigby, and a new era in content distribution, fueled in part by Albie Hecht and his band of digital media pioneers.

Country Music Awards brings back music

Flipping through the channels last night I came across the 2009 CMA Awards. I wouldn’t call myself a country fan (until now).

In a world that has become so full of hype and seemingly endless staged music award shows, the CMA Awards were a nice breath of fresh air.

I particularly loved Sugarland’s duet and really loved Jac Brown’s rendition of the Charlie Daniel’s Band “The Devil went down to Georgia”.

Just Kidding Judy Grimes as a Puppet

For those of you who love Judy Grimes of SNL, this is a great video my friend Sweatband Man and his friend Quinn put together. Just kidding.

Are any of us really “relevant”?

Michael Arrington made a great point in his recent November 4 article “A Little Perspective“.

Compared to Facebook (and Google), Twitter, Digg and the rest of us have a long way to go. At the end of the day, the websites that offer the best value to the users will prosper and the rest will dry up and blow away in the wind.

World record rattlesnake found at outlet mall

St. Augustine, FL is only about 45 minutes from my home. This giant 15 foot diamondback snake was apparently at the ‘mall’ yesterday. Maybe he was looking for some closeout deals.
