65_Red_Roses Eva Markvoort – My life is ending

Tuesday, April 27th, 2010

25 and dying - Eva blogged every step

i’m at that point now
i’m done with the poetics
asking for help
my sister is helping me write
actually helping me write

the medications have been piling up
they are taking their toll
i am supersaturated with medications
i’ve been medically missing in action for two days
the docs started taking me off some of them to see how i would manage

and i am not managing
not managing at all

i’m drowning in the medications

i can’t breathe

every hour
once an hour

i can’t breathe

something has to change.

Written by her sister for her blog 65 Red Roses., 25 year old former beauty queen Eva Markvoort posted her final blog post last month from her hospital bed where she died from Cystic Fybrosis. It was a chilling end to what had to be a terribly emotional journey for her friends and family. “65 Red Roses” was what she called her disease as a child. She was unable to pronounce the real name of her disease.

Whiskey River girls did their best to not leave this cowboy singing the blues

Sunday, April 25th, 2010

I got the VIP invites in the Whiskey River opening at the St. Johns Town Center in Jacksonville, Florida a while back.

I was of course excited at the concept of a good-old-cowboy-cold-beer western dance club to bring my beautiful wife to on a Saturday Night.

After polishing up the boots and throwing a little armorall on the dash of the F-250 we set out.  It was 9 PM saturday night and we were excited for a little line dancing, bull riding, wing eating and good old fashioned cowboy entertainment.  Unfortunately, none of that happened.

Long story short, at around 11:30 we were done,  pulling through Krystal to pick up a sackful to drown our Whiskey River Blues, and to quench our hunger. Despite repeatedly trying to find some food, someone that could help us or even a place to sit down, we left empty stomached. Maybe that is a good sign.

I can see the potential, but it left a lot to be desired. It reminded me of a mix between Hooters, Disney, and a frat party for  Jacksonville suburbanites. I think I even saw those guys from Jersey Shore there. Fist pumping while they do their laundry or whatever.

Warning: Actual contents may vary

For starters, the images on their website paint a picture of the ole-west, jean-short, whiskey infused fun I was looking for on a Saturday night. I can deal with a little optimistic marketing – this is what I can’t deal with:

Here is a picture of what it actually looked like.

Quick, get up there and ride the bull!

It is fairly new and I’m sure we’ll check back in a few months. While it didn’t give us the ho-down I was looking for at least it’s a new genre of clubs to add to J Ville’s options on a Saturday night and the Whiskey River girls did their best to keep the crowd entertained.

RevolutionMuslim.com Blogging for Murder?

Thursday, April 22nd, 2010

This guy is trying to say that the creators of South Park are going to end up dead because of their portrayal of Muslims. According to RevolutionMuslim.com, Trey and Matt are likely going to end up like one of their past murder victims. It is hard to tell exactly because the website seems to be down.

They apparently are protected by free speech (God bless the USA) but that doesn’t mean we can’t all voice our opinions.

Revolution Muslim has warned the creators of South Park - "The dust will never settle"

Just in – on CNN.com For its 200th episode April 14 — the beginning of a two-part story that concludes Wednesday night — “South Park” creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker decided to go all-in, creating a plot line about free speech in which most everybody the show’s ever offended comes back. Among the episode’s characters: the Prophet Mohammed, who is first pictured behind a black “censored” bar and later in a bear suit.

That didn’t sit well with Revolution Muslim, an Islamic group that objected to Mohammed’s portrayal.

According to some Muslim traditions, the visual depiction of Mohammed is not allowed.

“We have to warn Matt and Trey that what they are doing is stupid and they will probably wind up like Theo van Gogh for airing this show,” the group said on its website. “This is not a threat, but a warning of the reality that will likely happen to them.” -

The U.S. Midterm Elections in 2010

Monday, April 19th, 2010

This year is the year of the mid-term elections in the United States. The elections are important because it is when the 435 seats in the United States House of Representatives as well as up to 34 of the 100 Senate Seats are decided.

In addition, 34 states elect their governor. In 2010, the election will be on the second Tuesday in November.

This is as important (if not more important) than the Presidential race. It is time for everyone to get involved.

Tea Party - 250,000 strong and growing

Tea Party - Remember Us?

Since Obama’s win in 2008, we’ve seen a number of grassroot organizations bubble up via Social Media. The Tea Party, is a non-partisan group dedicated to fiscal responsibility. The Coffee Party appears to be similar in purpose, albeit slightly less radical in it’s rhetoric.

The amazing thing about this – each ‘party’ has under 250,000 members. This is less than 0.1% of the total 217 million of us who can legally vote.

Second Amendment Rally – Right to bear arms

Monday, April 19th, 2010

There are several versions of the text of the Second Amendment, each with slight capitalization and punctuation differences, found in the official documents surrounding the adoption of the Bill of Rights:

The 2nd Amendment Reads:

A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the People to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.

You may have not yet heard, but there is a large rally going on today in Washington D.C., specifically around the topic of the American right to bear arms. Whether or not you agree people should be legally allowed to carry guns in public, this debate is a matter of constitutional rights.
