Willie Nelson gets a haircut

Thursday, May 27th, 2010

I was browsing around Google Trends today and found an interesting ‘buzz’ that is happening. Along with the BP Oil Spill, American Idol, I found “Willie Nelson haircut’ as a peaking trend today on Google. I guess it’s kind of a big deal because he’s probably had that long ponytail for his entire career!

My favorite Willie album is Highwayman, with Johny Cash.

Hair needed to stop the oil slick

Monday, May 10th, 2010

The latest idea in cleaning up the slick – hair.

Apparently human and pet hair soaks up oil and can be used in the big booms they are using. If you are interested in donating, Matter of Trust is handling some of the logistics.

David Plouffe – YOU put in 10 million hours to pass health care reform

Monday, May 3rd, 2010

I intended a live 2010 strategy session put on by the Obama staff, directed at the millions of people who have become the grass-roots powerhouse that is the party. Here are a few points that I found interesting:

Coverage
Staff in 50 states
Volunteers in all 435 congressional districts
3.1 Million people taken action

Just during the closing weeks of health care reform:
1.5 million phone calls to congress
10 million hours to support congress

The point of the session was on re-activating all $15m of the first-time voters who came out for Obama the first time.

Maurice Ferre to Meek – I want to know what you’ve accomplished in the past 8 years

Saturday, May 1st, 2010

Maurice Ferre hasn’t been the mayor of Miami for a while, but his passion for politics and serving the people of Florida has been his life’s focus. As the most recent democratic candidate to enter the U.S. Senate race, Mr. Ferre certainly has the experience to get the job done.

The question is, does he have the money?

His $130k in donations thus far are going to have to work pretty hard to make a dent in the $3.7 M Meek has raised.

Ferre senate

Maurice Ferre was Mayor of Miami from 1973-1985

Being the underdog is nothing new for Ferre, however. He’s been working on balancing Florida’s budget for almost 25 years.

During an exclusive interview just for the Yovia community. Mr. Ferre passionately described how the youth of Florida are the key to economic recovery.

There are 2 million people unemployed in Florida and [there are lot's of students]  not even graduating from high-school, let alone college. Plus, Florida is donor state (we pay more to the Federal government than we receive.

These are both 2 of Maurice’s top issues.

Ferre plans to run a grass-roots campaign and is compiling his official position statements for bloggers to read and ask questions directly on Facebook.

His final comments to us:

“I challenge Mr. Meek to name one thing he’s accomplished. I want to know one thing that he [spearheaded] and got completed during  his last 8 years in Washington.”

Thus far the Meek campaign has not responded.
