Wow! I am so glad that I took a chance on this rice/steamer.. I almost passed this item up because I only saw one review and it was a bad review. Well I took a chance and this is one nice Item. I purchased ours for 19.99 at Target. There were only two left. Let me get to how this all started. First of all I came across a proctor silex rice cooker, for 19.99, I passed that cooker up and then went back to look for that cooker and it was gone. So I did some research on rice cookers. Come to find out, this one had what I was really looking for. The proctor was only a rice cooker. This Rice cooker/steam, can not only cook rice, but steam veggies and fish. It is like a one cook pot.

So, rushed home from the store, washed everything, out of the box and read the directions and started putting everything in the pot. I used jasmine rice, and seasoned the rice the way that I wanted it. When I tell you that I have never tasted rice like this, I said, well what have I been eating? I always wondered why I could never get brown rice or any rice cooked right, now I know. Not only did this rice cooker cook the rice just right, but It also steamed the veggies just the way I like them…. Wow what a deal.. Not let me also say that I only washed the steamer, top and base that goes inside of the rice cooker. You are not to was the base in water.

I am so glade that I took a chance on this item, and I am glad that I will be making healthier food for my family. Our children are so excited about the rice cooker. I see why there were only two left on the self. And I see why you should have a ricer cooker.
Now the other rice cooker that I wanted to purchase was used and only cooked rice. I was also told that it was returned because the person who purchased the item did not like the it cooked. So I am glad that I passed it up. This was worth the price and we feel like we made a wise investment and that we used our money wisely.

Now last thing is that this comes with a user manual that has a few recipes included. Well I am on my way to eat more rice and veggies!

… you follow the suggestions you will find in the review “The instructions are wrong” posted here on January 25, 2008 by Thomas Berry.

We sometimes had the problem stated often in other reviews, concerning overcooking the very bottom of the rice. When we started including the steamer tray ALWAYS – even when cooking only rice – our rice began cooking perfectly every time. We insert the steamer piece with its sides going down into the main pot and place the glass lid atop the steamer.

N. B., we were unsure about Mr. Berry’s use/non-use of the glass lid, so we started by including it as stated above. We haven’t yet had to try it without the glass lid. Another review/reviewer (“MUST READ: I learned the secret to using this tool!!!” on July 31, 2008 by K. Lyons) suggests omitting the glass lid altogether and using the steamer only. Should we have any problems in the future, we will go this route.

We have never experienced boil-overs. This shouldn’t be taken too seriously, though: our family is small, and we have never filled the pot above the 4 cup line with ingredients before beginning cooking.

The cooker also reheats rice perfectly for us (and, yes, we also insert the steamer even when reheating only).

The device is extremely easy to use and easy to clean.

In short, we think this rice cooker to be an excellent addition to our kitchen.
