Traditional Thanksgiving Meal

original thanksgiving feastThe first Thanksgiving had absolutely no mashed potatoes, no pork of any kind, and no cranberry sauce. Corn on the cob is unlikely as it was probably dried instead. Oysters were a huge staple in the Native American diet so it is extremely likely that they were one of the main courses at Thanksgiving, but you would be shocked if you were served oysters on the half shell this Thanksgiving. Venison was also probably on the menu as well as beans, squash, berries, fowl, fish, and even eels. So this Thanksgiving I want you to think about this while you are eating your mashed potatoes or your cranberry salad, consider eating something that is more traditional and shocking your guests.

Wow, I never really thought of that before. I’ve heard of ham at Thanksgiving, but never oysters!
