If you know something about computers and downloading illegal content then you’ve probably heard of Bit Torrent, Bit Torrent is a program similar to limewire or napster in that it is used to download files from the internet that other people have and you want. Other than that 1 similarity Bit Torrent and limewire are completely different, limewire uses a different type of downloading process to get files from 1 user to you, while Bit Torrent takes a file (usually a lot larger, an album rather than a song) from many different sources and arranges it in an order so that the fastest part will download to your system from different users. The key difference is that on limewire you can listen to a song or watch a video while it downloads, with Bit Torrent you cannot, simply because you aren’t getting the file in the order of how it’s being played, youre getting fragments that aren’t complete until the end. Of course that sounds terrible to some people but the real key difference between the 2 is that the fragmentation of the download allows for an album to download at the same speed as a song on limewire.
I’ve been using Bit Torrent for years now and it works a little differently from limewire in another way. As with limewire you can just open the program and search for whatever you want, that’s not the case with Bit Torrent. With Bit Torrent you actually go to different websites like Torrentspy.com Torrentbox.com thepiratebay.org and many others, click a file that then downloads into your Bit Torrent program and begins the file download, this route is pretty good because you can go to a site and look up whatever you want to download and if they don’t have it then you go to another and hope that they do.
Recent news has told us that the key site for downloading torrents, thepiratebay.org, is being bought out. For thepiratebay this is great news, they get to get out with 8 million dollars and not have to worry about the illegality of their business and wonder when the government is going to shut them down. For it’s current users the party is most likely over, the new company that is taking over is already saying that they are going to find ways to make the site legal and pay the owners of the content. I guess this is good for the people who like to play it safe and download their files, but for everyone else this is devastating. It’s already hard to find a good torrent site with a ton of content and thanks to the government any others have been shut down.
With this buyout thepiratebay.org will have until August of this year to continue as it normally does, my advice is to download like you never have, get all the content you can before they start making this crap legal and start making you pay.
as for torrent sites you can still use www.thepiratebay.org until August also www.btjunkie.com isn’t bad and www.mininova.com isn’t bad either. Also check out www.surfthechannel.com for streaming television shows and movies all for free and in good quality. Demonoid.com is a great one but you need to be invited to it, so if anyone has access to invite, hit me up =)
You all must have heard of Billy Mays, in fact if you own a TV you’ve probably seen him, he’s the big guy with the solid black beard who always wears a blue button down and tries to sell you his latest find, i.e. OxiClean, What Odor? Mighty Putty, etc., he’s the guy that if you put your TV on mute you can still hear him yelling about how amazing the City Sliders hamburger maker is. Billy died just the other night in his sleep, he complained about a bumpy airplane touchdown where the plane’s tire popped and Billy hit his head on some luggage, he then went to sleep that night and never woke up. After today’s autopsy medical examiners are saying that Billy had heart disease and that may have been the culprit in his death, of course they won’t know for another 8 to 10 weeks but it’s probably safe to say that he died from a heart attack in his sleep. Recently Billy had finished the first season of his show, Pitchmen and was starting work on the 2nd season, he will be missed and I’m sad that I’ll never get to see his black Bentley rolling around the streets of Tampa.
Here is a little rap tribute to the pitchman, I hope you enjoy it.
Apparently Shaq has just recently been traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers. For the Cav’s this is a great pickup and they will now have one of the most famous players and the currently most famous player in the NBA on their roster. There was much skepticism about LeBron going to New York around the time of the playoffs, but now it’s settled, he’ll be staying in Cleveland if anyone truly doubted that. This new addition says that Ilgauskas will head to the bench but who really cares when you’ve got Shaq and Lebron tearing it up. The Phoenix Suns are reportedly getting Ben Wallace, Sasha Pavlovic the 46th pick in the draft and $500,000 from Cleveland, so it looks like the Suns are getting a purely financial deal.
With Shaq in the house Cleveland will have another legitimate run at the Finals and will probably face Orlando in the Eastern Conf Championship again unless KG comes back strong with the Celtics.
Supposedly Shaq found out about his trade just the other day through twitter, how funny is that?
Last night I took a trip to Amsterdam, no not the city in the Netherlands but the new hookah bar up by the Winn Dixie at St Johns and Beach. I’ve been smoking hookah casually since about 4 years ago, I’d always find myself up at Sahara Cafe when the urge came, or just when I need to sit around with some friends and hang out. Until recently Sahara has really been the only hookah lounge around the area, of course you can head to avondale and hit up Casbah or head to the beach and see if there hookah bar is still open (which it isnt) but Sahara has been there since the beginning of the hookah craze and it’s been a grown as a great meeting place for friends looking to hang out and smoke some hookah. Hookah has become a big deal over the past few years among the college crowd and is steadily continuing to bring out more and more smokers.
Now back to the review of Amsterdam, at first I was pretty skeptical, Sahara has been around for such a long time that everyone in Jax knows about it, or should know about it, also it’s usually packed but never overflowing so much that another hookah lounge in close proximity would benefit. Sahara does have one thing that another lounge could eliminate and then profit from, luckily Amsterdam has found it, but of course it’s not that hard for a new lounge to have a less busy atmosphere. Amsterdam does bring to the table one other thing, they have a little more space to work with, and for now they have their booths spread out a little better than Sahara does. For the longest time Sahara has struggled to pack more and more people into their establishment, but for now Amsterdam has a better feel, it’s not quite as dark or loud or middle-eastern as Sahara but some people like that. Amsterdam also provides premium shisha for it’s patrons, just last night we got a list of 20+ premium flavors from starbuzz, and many other plain flavors from Al-Fakhar which is another great shisha. Sahara might offer similar flavors and more suggested mixes but they do it for a price, at Sahara you can get a Sex on the Beach hookah for 22 dollars, and at Amsterdam you can get the same thing for just 16.99, and did i mention the actual hookahs that they provide are top quality, last night we smoked out of a Mya which is one of the best, and I also saw someone getting a Khalil Mamoon, another top notch hookah.
When I first arrived at the new place I wondered how it would do against the heavy-weight competitor that is Sahara, we got there at 8 and it was just my group of friends and 2 other people in another booth. This is kind of average for the time but I still thought to myself that the new lounge would be shut down within a few months. As the night went on my friends and I realised that it was half price hookah night at Sahara, of course i slapped myself but with the prices at Amsterdam it’s still a pretty good deal to just stay there. More time passed and I was smokin the hookah amazed at the flavor that was hitting from the Mya hookah, more than I can usually say about Sahara. 10 o clock rolled around and more people started to flood in, by 10:30 the place was more than half full, on a Tuesday night that is great and they stay open late so even more would continue to show up. After the experience I knew that my previous opinion was wrong, this new hookah lounge could be around for a while and competition is always good for both places.
In my opinion check out Amsterdam Lounge and see for yourself, it’s a great place and a nice break from the same old Sahara. Technorati Profile
Lol i just saw this video on Youtube and I knew that I just had to post it… for anyone who has ever played or even seen WoW they can probably relate to this video. I’m not quite sure if this is a real story but it’s freaking hilarious (unless it’s true).
I’m sure everyone reading this has seen atleast 5 ads for the new funny film, Year One, coming to theaters this Friday, I know if you watched the NBA Finals you were probably watching the advertisements more than the Magic but that’s a different story. Upon first seeing the poster in a movie theater I was pretty skeptical, I love Jack Black and Michael Cera usually does a good job playing an awkward kid but I know how often both of these actors play the exact same role, always. What added another level of skepticism is the fact that they are blasting advertisements all over the place, and in my experience most of the funny films that run a ton of advertisements tend to fall flat, with the recent exception of The Hangover. I decided that I would do a little research on the film to see if there were any other reasons to see it other than that the previews, as overplayed as they are, are hilarious, and there is! Harold Ramis is directing it and co-writing it with Gene Stupnitsky, I know neither of these names probably ring a bell but don’t worry because I had no idea who they were until I checked on imdb, Harold Ramis is the guy who plays Dr. Egon, the ghostbuster who isn’t Bill Murray or Dan Aykroyd, Ramis also wrote Caddyshack, Back to School, Groundhog Day, Ghostbusters, Stripes and Animal House, all movies that are 80′s classics and worth watching multiple times. Stupnisky is a major writer for The Office, one of NBC’s best shows running right now, both Stupnisky and Ramis are also currently working on a Ghostbusters 3 that will include all of the original cast.
So with all this said I think the writing and the direction will give the actors some pretty good lines, and some even more humerous situations. Year One comes out tomorrow and if you’re willing to head to AMC to drop 10 bucks or Tinseltown to drop 9ish you should definitely hit it up, even if it doesn’t trump this years The Hangover it will most certainly provide each member of the audience a slew of funny lines to recite throughout the next few weeks until Sacha Baron Cohen’s Bruno hits us in July.
If you haven’t already seen it a dozen times check out this clip for the film Year One, in theaters June 19. Actually I’ve never seen this trailer and it now officially looks funny =P
So as you all may know Scientology is some pretty sketchy stuff, it’s widely believed that the Church is a cult and that it abuses it’s members by defrauding them and is known for making it’s members pay to reach higher and higher levels of the religion, where they are entrusted with the truth behind the world and more importantly humans. As it turns out the church is now running an advertisement on CNN and it’s pretty good. They seem to be directing the ad towards stress-ridden depressed individuals and people who just feel like complacency has set in (probably at least 75% of the population). I particularly like the part at the end where it brings it all together and then says what is everyone looking for? The Truth! then scientology.org flashes and you can’t help but laugh. and is it just me or isn’t @ 17 seconds the final scene from The Matrix when Neo is about to take off into the sky ?
I can’t find any other place for this video so I can’t embed it but you can check it out here http://gawker.com/5292588/scientology-hates-psychiatry-loves-its-ads also check out the video that I’m sure all of you have seen where South Park uncovers “the truth” about scientology and it’s whacky beliefs.
As you can see the video is kind of long but it’s definitely worth watching, O’Reilly blows up on the “left wing extremist” and really lays into her because she hurt his feelings on her website. I think this was a pretty good debate between the two of them, they both get their points across but it appears that Bill really gets the brunt of the attack because he nearly loses it telling her to shut up and ends the program almost silent. I know a lot of you guys are probably raging Republicans and you like the antics of Rush Limbaugh and Bill O’Reilly, and I have a little bit of respect for what they do up until they start plugging their ears and saying la la la la la la la la just to piss you off and illustrate that they are just as close-minded as you think.
Anyways I’m no supporting either side of this argument because it’s quite difficult to understand from both views, please don’t flame me with your one-sided banter and question my stance, other than that I welcome any blind support for your shepherd Mr. Bill O’Reilly.
Last night I wasted some time in trying to watch the Magic come back and make an honorable fight out of the rest of the finals… as most of you know that is something that didn’t happen. Now many of you Laker fans are probably rejoicing in your easy 4-1 series win but let me remind you that 2 of those games went into overtime and if the Magic would have just converted on 1 freethrow the outcome of the series would be drastically different. I know it’s rather stupid to say what if, because obviously it didn’t happen but cmon I have to have something to hold on to! I guess the biggest thing that I’m upset about is that my pride is hurt, oh and I’m out 20 bucks haha but as for next year I don’t know what the magic are going to do… they have a strong team and if the planets align and the fate’s shine upon them they may be back in the same place maybe winning a few more games in the finals! I had the craziest dream last night too, i was at some theme park in Orlando and met up with Derek Fischer, he was pretty cool but later on we met with Kobe and that guy was a douche, he wouldnt say a word… prolly just my inner hatred for the man coming out in my subconcious lol. but now that basketball season is over and I’m crushed it’s time to look onto Jag football (another potentially crushing subject)! this is something that has always excited me, even in the down times, and I cannot wait for the season start against the Colts! Hopefully the Jags can get a good start and rally my spirits, im so tired of going to bed crying I mean it’s just not fun waking up to a wet pillow lol. Let me know what you guys think of this terrible end to the finals, and what lies in store for the Jags in September.
Ok yesterday I promised you guys some pictures of my girlfriends new cat right? good cause I got em!! she still hasnt decided on a name for the little thing yet but I can assure you we’re workin on it… I ran by some of the suggested names to her and she shot em down =/ sorry guys, namin a cat not a robot (airwolf) or a street walker (beula) but i definitely appreciate the effort… I’m not a fan of naming it something stupid like skittles or fluffy or anything, and I don’t know any cool human names to give it that are female… maybe maude or mildred eh I dunno. I do like my uncle Jamie’s suggestion of Niskers lol it sounds kinda bad tho…
I’m not sure why the collar is around her body but i’m sure their’s a good reason lol
