Ok I’ve been watching the show Trueblood since the end of the 1st season last year, I was told it was good and I had to check it out. At first it kinda bothered me that it was set in Louisiana because I knew the potential of the story and the depth that could really be achieved if it were taken to a larger city with a little more danger and a little less southern accent. I don’t think I really enjoyed the first season like I’ve enjoyed other shows that I like, but I always had a strange feeling that the show would really start to get good as it progressed, the unveiling of new creatures and danger at every corner is always intriguing and the show seems to do a pretty good job of that now that we’re in season 2. Even though this new season is about 10 times better than season one it still sometimes finds a way to disappoint, it seems like every other episode is pretty pointless, I understand that not every show can be introducing new content, and I wouldn’t even want that, but the episodes that aren’t very good don’t necessarily offer anything, they’ll provide one good scene then the rest will be an attempt to further the relationships or build the characters but it often falls flat, giving us more information that we already know and not really leading us to believe that anything has truly happened. With that said I’m still excited every week when Trueblood is on because despite that it has a lot to offer and is probably the best show on right now, at least until Californication comes back on in the fall or It’s Always Sunny again in the fall. If you haven’t had the chance to see Trueblood I suggest you start checking it out, it has a great premise and is always full of adventure in the fantastical vampire world, plus it’s really starting to get good and you wouldn’t want to miss it.
Yes that title does say Gigabyte and no it’s not a typo. Since when did flash drives have more memory than my 1 year old desktop? Of course memory on things like iPods, computers, flash drives, and memory cards has continued to grow like anything else in the electronics world but when you actually stop for a second and take a look at how far we’ve advanced it’s truly amazing. I can remember when flash drives first arrived and my dad brought one home that boasted a huge 2 gigs of memory, that was huge, and it didn’t even seem like that would get outdone for a while. But nowadays we have a standard iPod video that has a 160 gig hard drive, a hard drive that is about 4 times as large as my last computers. Of course I’ve upgraded to my 300 gig last year which is about 2/3rds full but still, it took me a while to even put a dent in the storage space. The launch of Kensington’s, worlds largest, 256 GB thumb drive clearly demonstrates how far this flash technology has come, and it makes data transfers of any capacity virtually microscopic. Of course it has it’s potential downsides too, I can’t imagine paying the record-breaking asking price of $924 for something that could be so easily misplaced, granted if you did pay almost a grand for a storage device you might take a little better care of it then the norm. For some people this will be a revelation of geekdom but for me it serves only as a milestone. The thumb drive is out now in Europe so if you wanna drop the dough you’d better find it online.

Everyone knows those, now, old Mac ads where Justin Long, playing the part of the Mac, would point out to John Hodgman, the portly, glasses-toting nerd portraying PCs, that Macs were basically error free and were much more stylish then the standard PC. These ads seemed like they were coming out by the week and they were great and a huge hit for Apple. Microsoft tried to fight back with a campaign where they had people with glasses saying, hey just because I have glasses doesn’t necessarily mean I’m a nerd, right? Oh btw I’m a PC. They later started mixing it up to show that not everyone who used a PC was a nerd.
Well recently Microsoft has hit the television with a slightly more successful campaign strategy, a string of films that you’ve most likely seen. The new ads are there to say that if you were given the money and the choice of any laptop out there that you’d probably walk away with a PC just because there are more choices and overall it’s a bit more personal. So Microsoft has successfully made a campaign that really rivals Mac’s, after all you probably haven’t seen a Mac ad in quite a while, and to top off that news, Microsoft’s COO Kevin Turner unleashed the fact that Microsoft stores are coming out this fall! Of course it doesn’t end there, to solidify the fact that Microsoft’s ads were working Mr. Turner told this story to a group of partners during his Worldwide Partners Conference.
And you know why I know [the commercials are] working? Because two weeks ago we got a call from the Apple legal department saying, hey — this is a true story — saying, “Hey, you need to stop running those ads, we lowered our prices.” They took like $100 off or something. It was the greatest single phone call in the history that I’ve ever taken in business. (Applause.)
I did cartwheels down the hallway. At first I said, “Is this a joke? Who are you?” Not understanding what an opportunity. And so we’re just going to keep running them and running them and running them.
A funny story, that if true, is a big win deal for Microsoft, afterall they’re not only going to have to worry about Apple in the future as Google is beginning to get into the OS business.
I’ve grown up with Windows so I like the fact that they’re starting to get a little more strength, they’ve never really been in danger but it doesn’t hurt to get ahead. The PC finally got it’s revenge!
After work yesterday I headed to AMC theatres to pick up my ticket for Harry Potter, my friend had already ordered his tickets a few days before and I didn’t want to get stuck not being able to see it. So I stroll up to the ticket purchasing kiosk and notice that the film is showing it 5 theaters, the first two, which are sold out, were the larger theaters and were obviously more in demand. So I noticed that the 2 main theaters were numbers 13 and 14, I go up to the lady at the front desk and ask her if there’s anyway that I can get in the bigger theaters with my friends when the time comes, she assures me that there isn’t and instructs me to have them change their tickets so that we can all see it together, in a smaller theater. Frankly I don’t care too much if I’m not in the biggest theater, I did pay 10 bucks and wouldn’t mind it but I figured I could just come back to the theater a little early and try to do my best to sneak in with my friends. So I headed back to the kiosk and picked up a ticket for auditorium 4 hoping that I could use that ticket to somehow sneak into the nicer theater with my friends.
The time came and I headed up to the theater, I must have really underestimated the popularity of the film because my version of getting somewhere early wasn’t exactly practical for this situation, I guess it had been a long time since I’d seen a movie on opening night at 12:01. So I meet up with my friends and I try to put my plan in action and sneak into my desired theater. I see my target, a short, slightly portly boy probably 16, guarding my goal. I proceed by placing my thumb close to the 4 so that upon first glance my ticket appears to be for the theater I’m entering, of course it is not. I’ve made it, and actually it was quite easy, now there is only one more problem, I got there at 11 o clock… apparently every other person who intended to see the movie got there at 10 o clock, the place was completely packed. We would be lucky to find 4 seats together at some of the worst spots in the theater, but don’t worry we did exactly that. You know those 3 rows of seats that have that annoying horseshoe shape in the very front? Those seats that you look at and ask, hey why are those seats in a semi circle and mine aren’t? Well there is a simple explanation for this, the explanation is that you’re so close to the screen that by putting you on a curve you can effectively see 3/4ths of the screen rather than just 1/2.
Anyways the movie wasn’t bad, it wasn’t great or anything but I was also in a pretty bad mood due mostly to my raging hunger and horrible seating, oh and my neck was absolutely killing me! I guess I’m just going to have to go home and download the bootlegged film from surfthechannel and see if it’s truly the proclaimed, best movie of the series.
I think that when I was growing up I kind of missed the Harry Potter craze, it was just after I left that phase of wizards and fantasy that the stuff started to hit the shelves, and it didn’t really help that I don’t like, or know how, to read. I think that I probably would have gotten into the books if they weren’t an astonishing 700 pages each but that’s a different story. Recently, like 3 weeks ago, I decided I wanted to watch one of the movies. I never had the will to watch one because I felt that I’d be left out if I didn’t watch them all, and I saw a scene from one on TV and it didn’t really intrigue me. I went to the Moonlight Movies at the beach with my friend and saw the last 30 minutes or so of the first film and from then on I decided that I may actually give the rest of the films a chance. So later I was visiting my girlfriend who is a fan of the books and the films, we watched one basically every night and I got caught up in the movies to the next one that comes out tomorrow. If you’re a fan of the films you know that not one of them has had reviews of lower than 80% on Rotten Tomatoes, of course that doesn’t mean everything to everyone but it sure does help. So far I’ve been checking the reviews for the new film, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, and it only has one negative review out of 41! that’s a 98% approval rating, anyhow I’ve read that this one is packed with adventure and really does a great job of translating the book into movie magic, I know that means something for most of you HP lovers.
So tonight I’m going to hit up the midnight showing of HP6 and try to not get too weirded out at the crazy geek fest of dressed up sorcerors and such and hopefully I won’t have to hear too many spells outside of the movie =).
Out of all the films I’d have to say my favorite was the third one, Prizoner of Azkaban, it had a good story and a really cool effect when they went back in time, also I like Gary Oldman and he did a great job as the wrongfully accused Sirius Black.
I look forward to checking out the film and would love to know what you guys think of the movies/books, like which is your favorite and least favorite. And yes mom I know I’m going to hell for supporting Harry Potter =/
Just got around to seeing Bruno on Sunday but I’m so glad I did, I had been wanting to see this movie since I heard about in right after Borat hit theaters and I knew that it would be every bit as funny as Borat, and then some. Some of the most hilarious moments are directly from the trailer but they just keep going and keep pushing the envelope, there were many times when Bruno pushed it so far that you were actually afraid he’d be shot or stabbed or beaten senseless, it’s a roaringly good time =). So if you’ve seen Borat or your just a fan of good comedy that has no real limits then I’d definitely suggest seeing this film, of course it’s racy and offensive but if you don’t mind seeing a penis or two and being extremely uncomfortable at times then you definitely need to check this one out. Just have to make it to Wednesday for the new Harry Potter and this week will be complete!
Lol so I come in to work today and this picture is all over the net, everyones wondering what Obama is lookin at and to me it looks pretty obvious. The best part of this photo is the look on France’s President Sarkozy’s face (guy at right). The butt in the photo belongs to Mayara Tavares, a 17 year old junior G8 delegate from Brazil, I think that makes her legal in Brazil?
lol so as you can see they’re both on the same level, but i still think that Obama is just planning where he’s going to step or something along that nature haha.
To be honeset Sarkozy looks like the the real culprit here, anyone can tell that Sarkozy has just gotten done saying, “hey Barack there’s a bag of skittles on the steps to your right.” Then of course the camera clicks and Sarkozy is all made ja look!
Upon my last visit to the movie theater I came in contact with a trailer for the film District 9, initially I was intrigued, a documentay style film on the quartering and segregation of intergalactic aliens is just appealing. The first trailer is obviously designed to be a teaser and really leaves you with nothing more than a premise and a hankering for the next trailer. Well recently they released the second trailer that gives a little more insight into the film and actually gives you a little more information on the film so that you can decide if it’s going to be worth watching. I’m a little dissappointed in the second trailer because I guess I was just hoping for more after seeing the first, I still think this film will be worth watching but doubt that it will truly be a film that people are talking about, either good or bad.
Decent effects, good premise, and some slightly funny material could make for a B+ film. As far as I know, the guy who gets sprayed with the liquid begins to have his DNA altered to that of the alien species and the alien weaponry in which the people of earth are interested is only able to be activated by the aliens, thus chase ensues on the man whose DNA is becoming more and more alien.
The film comes out August 14th and I’ll probably be in attendance, unless of course the next trailer really blows.
Along with the rest of the US, California has been having a real tough time with the latest economic crisis, and as of recently has even resorted to doling out IOU’s to keep their state afloat. Major banks like Wells Fargo, Citigroup, and Bank of America have announced that they are going to stop accepting IOU’s issued by California by Friday, even though California is acting somewhat unconstitutionally by effectively creating and using their own form of currency, the dreaded IOU, yes this is the piece of paper known by all and made even more famous by the film Dumb and Dumber, and until recently has had a place in my wallet (long story). So now that California is out of money, and out of fake money whatever will they do to avoid complete anarchy? To hell with it, why not just legalize marijuana in the state…
For some time now marijuana has been legal as a medicinal drug in California and now advertisements from The Marijuana Policy Project are aiming to incite the need for the full decriminalization of marijuana and for it to be regulated in the same way alcohol is.
A woman in the ad says, “The governor and the legislature are ignoring millions of Californians who want to pay taxes. We’re marijuana consumers. Instead of being treated like criminals for using a substance safer than alcohol, we want to pay our fair share.”
Gov. Schwarzenegger has said that he supports a debate on legalizing marijuana, still 3 California TV stations are refusing to air the ad due to the fact that they think it encourages the smoking of marijuana which is currently illegal.
This is the actual ad that the 3 stations are chosing to not run, I think it’s rather harmless and illustrates a decent plan to help California out in a major time of crisis. Let me know what you think about this ad and whether or not legalizing marijuana for the benefit of taxing is a good idea.
