Year Numero Uno

I’m sure everyone reading this has seen atleast 5 ads for the new funny film, Year One, coming to theaters this Friday, I know if you watched the NBA Finals you were probably watching the advertisements more than the Magic but that’s a different story. Upon first seeing the poster in a movie theater I was pretty skeptical, I love Jack Black and Michael Cera usually does a good job playing an awkward kid but I know how often both of these actors play the exact same role, always. What added another level of skepticism is the fact that they are blasting advertisements all over the place, and in my experience most of the funny films that run a ton of advertisements tend to fall flat, with the recent exception of The Hangover. I decided that I would do a little research on the film to see if there were any other reasons to see it other than that the previews, as overplayed as they are, are hilarious, and there is! Harold Ramis is directing it and co-writing it with Gene Stupnitsky, I know neither of these names probably ring a bell but don’t worry because I had no idea who they were until I checked on imdb, Harold Ramis is the guy who plays Dr. Egon, the ghostbuster who isn’t Bill Murray or Dan Aykroyd, Ramis also wrote Caddyshack, Back to School, Groundhog Day, Ghostbusters, Stripes and Animal House, all movies that are 80′s classics and worth watching multiple times. Stupnisky is a major writer for The Office, one of NBC’s best shows running right now, both Stupnisky and Ramis are also currently working on a Ghostbusters 3 that will include all of the original cast.

So with all this said I think the writing and the direction will give the actors some pretty good lines, and some even more humerous situations. Year One comes out tomorrow and if you’re willing to head to AMC to drop 10 bucks or Tinseltown to drop 9ish you should definitely hit it up, even if it doesn’t trump this years The Hangover it will most certainly provide each member of the audience a slew of funny lines to recite throughout the next few weeks until Sacha Baron Cohen’s Bruno hits us in July.

If you haven’t already seen it a dozen times check out this clip for the film Year One, in theaters June 19. Actually I’ve never seen this trailer and it now officially looks funny =P
