The well-known and well-liked ice cream producers known as Ben & Jerry have created a sweet concoction that is being received with icy reviews. It seems the favored ice cream company’s new Schweddy Balls flavor has offended some moms who are demanding the product be removed from store shelves.
The limited edition ice cream was a hit with others as television programs such as Saturday Night Live did a skit based around the new flavor, however it seems they may be the only ones laughing.
The company’s Schweddy Balls consists of fudge covered rum balls and was inspired from a 1998 skit where a famous actor played the character of Pete Schweddy, who was noted for citing, “No one can resist my Schweddy balls.”
A Mississippi mom organization are the ones responsible for putting the heat on nation wide grocery stores to have the schweddy product removed from non-schweddy store shelves. They’ve even gone as far as to encourage others to ask the Ben & Jerry company to stop producing the ice cream flavor on the basis it is not appropriate for young children.
A spokeswomen for the Stop & Shop grocery chain, Suzi Robinson says, “We haven’t received any complaints that we’re not carrying that flavor. However, if we do get feedback from customers that they want it, we’ll certainly revisit the decision.”
At the same time Sean Greenwood of Ben & Jerry’s says, “We’ve heard from lots of folks who are fans of the flavor. Yes, some supermarket chains decided not to carry Schweddy Balls. That is true, possibly because they found the name too irreverent. We respect their decision.” The company continues to produce the ice cream.
