Google Makes Bold Move In Ad Placement

Today Google users will notice an advertisement placed directly under the famously minimalist traditional Google search engine. It is an ad for their first entry into the cell phone wars, the Nexus One. You have surely heard about it by now as it has caused quite a commotion with its revolutionary unlocked carrier plans and updated Android operating system. But that is not the main point of this post. Google utilized a space it already owned, which faces little competition, and placed an ad in a normally unused space that will potentially be seen by millions. This is a genius move that cost next to nothing compared to the big television and print campaigns put on by competing companies such as Verizon for the Droid or Apple with every new iPhone upgrade. What makes this such a bold move as well is that Google has done this on so few occasions. Google is known for wanting to keep things as simple and clean as possible and an ad placed directly under the search bar buttons goes against this creed entirely. Will it work? Sure it will. They are Google! They have practically monopolized the search engine market. Bold business moves such as this can have a great yield if executed properly and so far Google has done just that. Competitors should take note.
