Why Should I Install Access Control in My Business?

Image : http://www.flickr.com

To look at this, we need to approach it with a different mind set. Many businesses install intruder alarm systems that will detect when someone is ALREADY INSIDE your property. viagra idea now is to stop those people getting inside in the first place. By installing Access Control, you are proactively attempting to stop people getting through your doors etc, via the use of electronically controlled locks, thus increasing the security and integrity of your premises. It is estimated that only 1 in 8 business crimes are reported in the UK – this is not necessarily because of the costs involved (such as repairs to damage, replacement of stolen goods or insurance premiums rising) but also because of the time involved in reporting it, filling out the relevant forms and telephone calls etc.

What type of access control system should I install then?

This can depend on several factors. The size and type of your business and, of course, budget. Generally speaking a simple stand-alone digital keypad that controls a electric solenoid release is classed as controlled access. If you only have a front door then an audio/video door entry intercom system may be better to greet your guests and visitors.

Larger premises may benefit by installing a networked system that can control many doors with thousands of users together with user friendly software etc. The optional software allows the manager to keep an audit trail of times and areas that have been accessed and to also allow or bar certain users/cardholders from areas that they shouldn’t be going into. Programmable Timezones can also be incorporated to stop access to individual cards or a complete set of doors. Proximity card technology has improved and is an economical way of introducing access control with minimum maintenance. High security sites may want to go one further with Biometric readers or Smart Cards.

There are currently many manufacturers within the market including Inner Range, Paxton, TDSi, PAC, ACT, BSB Progeny, Bewator and Europlex. When looking at installing a system to your premises it may be wise to opt for a system that is widely available and not a ‘closed-protocol’ or proprietary system. This is because if you become unhappy with your access provider, you can easily ‘move’ to another for a better service for instance.

Conclusions

Whatever system you choose, be sure to work closely with your installer to get the best from your system to give you many years of service together with peace of mind – it should also be easily expandable allowing you to add doors and users as your business grows.

A Discussion on Cytotoxic Proximity on Healthcare Workers

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Cytotoxic drugs come under the special categories of hazardous drugs. These particular drugs are responsible for inhibiting the general functions of cells and thus preventing their normal growths. The increased use of these cytotoxic agents has been found due to the practice of chemotherapy, a technique employed to treat cancer patients. Some other health disorders such as skin abnormalities including psoriasis also involve these toxic substances in their treatment procedure. The article covers a brief discussion on the workers in healthcare settings prone to the risks of cytotoxic exposure.

Employers and employees in different healthcare sectors such as medical clinics, hospitals and special medical care homes may get exposed to hazardous drugs during various drug handling activities such as preparation, transfer, patient administration, monitoring process, disposal, etc.

Due to adverse health effects caused by cytotoxic drug exposures, there has been a significant increase in concern over the health risks of these drugs.

Cytotoxic drugs have shown to present chromosomal changes, abnormalities related to reproductive systems and even cancer. These are liable to produce considerable side-effects in patients who are treated with these drugs. As these drugs are non-specific in nature and therefore these cannot make distinctions between active and passive (diseased) cells. This results in degradation of conditions of patients.

There are numerous evidences that demonstrate the serious health effects caused due to the receipt of therapies which involves cytotoxic chemicals. The disorders such as dysfunction of reproductive organs, leukemia, and damage to chromosomes, neoplasms, malignancies and organ malfunctions are some of the frequently caused cytotoxic effects.

Studies have shown that due to the lack of implementation of safety equipments such as closed system drug transfer devices and biological safety cabinets in the preparation and transfer of harmful chemicals, the environment of healthcare settings get contaminated with these agents. Inadequate knowledge and negligence to precautionary incentives by the workers led to an increase in the number of these drug affected cases.

Security Cameras in Office Environments

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Public spaces like office buildings can be prime targets for burglars and thieves. In many cases, thieves have access to the office building and the offices, and are free to come and go as they please. Many of them time their entrance into the building for regular breaks, lunches, at the very early part of the day, or very late right before everybody goes home. Thieves can slip into the cubicles, and go directly for the correct drawer to find purses, wallets, and other valuable items. More brazen thieves might try to take computers and computer accessories. Anybody can be a victim to this sort of crime, and the guilty party isn’t always an outsider. Sometimes, employees can be guilty of theft as well.

Security cameras, either regular cameras or wireless, can be one of the best defenses against possible theft. Well-placed cameras can act as deterrents for would-be thieves, as many of them do not want to risk getting caught. Cameras can also provide crucial evidence if something is stolen. An entire security system would be a great idea, but you can just install cameras to help solve a current problem, or stop a problem before it starts.

If you install cameras in a work environment, always remember privacy issues. Cameras should never be installed in an area that has a reasonable expectation of privacy. Cameras should be kept out of restrooms, offices, cubicles, or break areas. If there are any concerns about privacy or employees’ rights, speak to human resources.

How an HID Proximity Card Works

Image : http://www.flickr.com

An HID proximity card is a card the size of your driver’s license or credit card. The card contains embedded information that will activate and open doors so that the holder of the card can enter. The card alone does not have the capability of accessing an area. The card must be combined with additional system components. The complete system works in conjunction to provide security for a specific area.

Other items in the system are a card reader, an access control panel and a computer to power the system. As a complete unit, the system functions as a security officer that reviews credentials and allows authorized people in the building at specific times of the day.

Embedded in the card is a specific binary code (ones and zeros) that have a specific sequence making the card unique. The code format is picked up by the card reader. The reader then transfers the coding to the control panel where it is analyzed to see if the cardholder is authorized to enter the area. Most of the cards do not have any additional code in the card; however, some cards do contain additional coding that the reader will take in. The reader will only transfer the sequence code to the access control panel for review.

Upon receiving the data, the controller processes the code. The first step of the controller processing is the analysis of the length of the data string and also the format of the code received. If the coding fits in with the specifications that have been set for the door, the controller then begins to review the facility code and site code. These must also match the system specifications for continued review of the card data.

If the card matches all of the previous criteria, the controller reviews the card number. The number may be authorized for a specific times and dates. If everything matches, the lock relay will be activated and the door will be opened.

If something in the sequence does not match, the controller will not authorize the door to open. Some systems will provide a response to the card holder as to why the door will not be activated. Other systems provide no response.

For those who maintain the security access system, the system can be modified as needed through the computer. The software application accessed from the computer will allow an authorized person to update card holder information, enable and disable card activation, configure the door access hardware and provide necessary reporting about the system use.

Alarm Systems and Business Security Can Save More Than Money

Unfortunately, security has become a major expense for businesses these days. Not only do they have to keep a close eye on those that might take advantage from the outside, but there are those that would do the same on the inside as well. For business security, it may require a bit more that that of a home security system to protect large amounts of assets around the clock. Continue reading and find out the advantages of alarm systems and business security.

Security is a huge issue for everyone. Although it has always been a large part of business, it seems to be even more prevalent now. Not only are businesses trying to protect their assets from those outside the business that might look to do them an injustice, but they must also protect themselves from the inside as well. Theft is not the only problem, but unwarranted lawsuits can also cost businesses a great deal of money each year.

In order to keep track of a large scale operation, it will require a bit more than a simple alarm system at times. There are a variety of different options available for every size of business to meet such requirements. Large businesses will often go beyond just intrusion prevention and look for something that will limit access altogether.

Electronic security access can be installed not only at entry doors, but at doors in the interior as well. If you need to keep track of the traffic in a stock or parts room then this may be the way to do it. One of the best advantages of this type of system is that you do not have to continually re-key a building. Each building on the property can be set up for security if it becomes necessary. A centralized box will control doors for each separate location.

This is another way to keep down insurance costs and keep your employees safe. People cannot gain access to the building without being allowed in or having the proper access code. It will also eliminate all of those situations of having to reclaim keys upon an employees exit from the company.

Video surveillance is another way to keep costs down due to theft. If there is large equipment that must be stored outside, video cameras can be used to record any activity that transpires around them during hours when the business is not in operation. Video cameras just being present will deter some burglars from attempting the robbery.

Surveillance by video is another way for a business to protect itself against claims that are not true. Claims can be filed by employees or customers and cost the company a great deal of money. There is no better proof that the actual video footage of the incident.

Alarm systems can be programmed to report to local police and fire departments. There are also ways to program for silent alarms in case of a robbery in progress. Systems come with a battery back-up in case of power failure, so there will be no worry in that department. Security options are available in packages for large and small businesses alike.

The Various Facets of an Automatic Boom Barrier

The Various Facets of an Automatic Boom Barrier

A boom barrier in its most simplistic form is a pivoted bar or pole, placed in a way such that the boom is enabled for the blocking of vehicular access through a controlled point. More often than not the gate or more specifically its tip rises to near vertical position. The easy tipping of the pole is brought about through the use of a counterweight. An automatic barrier as the name suggests has an automated functioning and it is not required that a person mans the barrier in order to let the vehicles pass through. These days most control points have automatic boom barriers. These points include railway crossings, checkpoints, drawbridges, toll booth and parking facilities amongst various others.

The availability of these barriers is extensive with regards to the boom arm length. So, you can get one that has an arm length of a 1 meter road width to an barrier that can be used on a 12 meter road width. These are powered by electricity but in the event of a power failure there is always the option of releasing the barrier by hand by using a manual key override system.

The Safety Features in Automatic Boom Barrier

Most automatic boom barriers have incorporated inductive loops for the safety of the barrier operation. The control system safety circuits are connected to ground inductive loops, which are located within the road surface. The use of the inductive loops means that the barrier arm does not suddenly lower when the vehicle is present within the passage area. Even if the arm lowers when the vehicle is passing under the barrier arm, it will automatically revert back to its open position.

An Advanced Control System

Only the most advanced state of the art control system is used with respect to controlling the functioning of the automatic boom barriers. The control system not only monitors the precise location of the kerb but also integrates a plethora of security features in order to ensure the optimal operational level of the kerb and also that the rise and fall of kerb is one smooth operation.

The Integration of Automatic Boom Barrier

These automatic boom barriers are great choices as they could be integrated into or linked to any number of remote systems. One of the examples of this is the Automatic Number Plate Recognition System. As the name suggests, this is a system wherein, a registration plate of a particular vehicle is checked against a database of the registration plates. Verification can be sought as to whether the kerb will allow access to that particular vehicle or not.

Another system is the Access Control System wherein various facets like Biometric identification, Proximity Card etc could be incorporated into the system. One of the most common systems that are integrated into the automatic boom barrier system is a token system wherein, standard issue tokens or even high security tokens could be integrated into the existing system.

All in all automatic boom barriers are a very important part of a comprehensive traffic management system that is seeing increasing usage all over the world.

Disadvantages of Outsourcing

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Outsourcing your work to a BPO company in the Philippines is one giant step. For a business owner, whether for a start up or established company, it must be hard to not be able to physically monitor some part of your operations everyday. This is actually one of the disadvantages of using a BPO company in the Philippines. Because of its proximity, some business owners are uncomfortable about giving the BPO company access to important information about how their business is being run.

Other issues that business owners look at as a disadvantage in outsourcing their workforce include security, confidentiality and service level. Questions like “How secure is your facility?” or “How sure are we that confidential client information like SSNs and credit card numbers will not be leaked?” are common concerns that clients raise. However, these issues can easily be put to rest by looking for two things when you are shopping around for the right BPO.

First, the BPO you are looking for must have the right certification in terms security standards and quality. Look for a BPO that is International Organization for Standardization or ISO and Information Security Management System or ISMS certified. That way you are sure that the BPO company is following a set of guidelines to ensure that no customer information will be leaked and that it follows the standard security protocol.

There is no reason for you not to enjoy the benefits of outsourcing. By taking an extra step to ensure that the company you will work with has the proper certifications, outsourcing your operations may be one of the decisions that will pay off the most.
