1 Thing for Green Launches 60 Days to Earth Day Initiative
by EmilyJacksonville, FL, February 21 – 1 Thing for Green, a movement that encourages individuals to do one eco-friendly thing each day, has launched its 60 Days to Earth Day initiative. In the two months leading up to Earth Day, which falls on April 22, 2009. 1 Thing for Green is encouraging people to submit photos, videos and tips to www.1thingforgreen.org to illustrate the small things everyone can do to help the environment.
“Everyone can do just one thing each day to save the planet,” said spokesperson Jalali Hartman. “It doesn’t seem like much on the individual level, but those small things add up to big help for the environment.”
The photos, videos and tips submitted by visitors between February 21 and April 22 will be featured on the 1 Thing for Green website, www.1thingforgreen.org. Visitors to the site can set up member profiles, participate in online discussions about eco-friendly topics, and learn new ways to “go green.” Individuals can also join the 1 Thing for Green cause on Facebook, sign up to follow the daily updates on Twitter, and view videos on the 1 Thing for Green Youtube channel.
Sponsors for 1 Thing for Green include earth-friendly groups who want to make a difference and encourage others to do the same. They include entertainers such as Nat and Alex Wolff from The Naked Brothers Band, companies such as Green Mountain Coffee, and services such as The Privacy Council. During the 60 Days to Earth Day initiative, sponsors will offer special discounts and rewards to 1 Thing for Green members while helping to spread the word about the ways that small actions can help the environment.
Companies interested in sponsoring 1 Thing for Green can visit the sponsorship website, http://yovia.com/sponsors/1thing4green.html.
Other special 1 Thing for Green events, including photo/video contests for members, are in the planning stages and will be announced at a later date. Right now, as 1 Thing for Green prepares for the next 60 days, the most important task is encouraging people to become part of the movement and share their small ideas for big “green” change.
“Anyone who thinks that they can’t make a difference needs to join 1 Thing for Green,” Hartman said. “As Ryunosuke Satoro said, ‘Individually, we are one drop. Together, we are an ocean.’”
