Travelzoo: the Great Recession Buster
by EmilyMy husband and I travel a lot, and with the recession in full force we are looking for more ways to stretch our budget and feed our travel bug. Recently I came across Travelzoo.com, a free service that finds and publishes travel deals. I was skeptical at first—so many of these sites are spam-machines and have hidden costs lurking around every corner. But this site is legit. Before publishing, they test each of their travel deals for hidden costs and other annoyances. They offer a search function, and they cover airfare, cruises, hotels, resorts, and more.
Top 20
Perhaps their coolest feature is the “Travelzoo Top 20”, a list of the top 20 deals of the week. Sample deals include domestic flights to Hawaii for $181, an overnight in a boutique hotel in New York City for $59, $399 for airfare and 3 nights at an all-inclusive Jamaica resort, and $40 for a night in Las Vegas at the Monte Carlo hotel. I signed up for their Top 20 weekly newsletter so that we will be able to “steal” away at a moment’s notice.
